ASKAM United joint- manager Callum Rayner is set to face Hawcoat Park tomorrow after recently completing 10-match ban.

The United frontman was given the long suspension after ‘having a go’ at the referee following a red card against GSK Ulverston Rangers last year.

It was the longest ban he has received, said Rayner, who returned to action just after Christmas.

“I got sent off and then had a go on the ref and got a 10-game suspension,” he said. “It wasn’t good.”

However, Rayner showed he has not forgotten where the back of the goal is when he scored along with Warren Smithson and Kyle Jefferson in Askam’s 3-1 West Lancs League Division One win over visiting Mill Hill St Peters last week.

It was the first game the Sandgrounders had played in a number of weeks because of the atrocious weather, which has had a huge impact on fixtures for virtually all clubs.

Rayner, who now shares the manager’s role with the returning Ben Shirley, expects a tough encounter against local rivals Hawcoat, who sit fifth in the table, a lofty seven places above Askam.

However, Hawcoat’s form has slipped a little of late having lost their last two league games, 2-0 at Turton and a 2-1 home defeat against Poulton last week.

“It should be a decent game, they are always decent games against Hawcoat,” said Rayner.

“We got a win last week and hopefully we can build on that. It was a decent result, it has been a long time coming.

“That was our first game in about eight weeks.”

Shirley said: “It is going to be tough, Scott Ellis has recruited really well, we know all about their threat going forward, they can be lethal with the forward line they have got.

“We finally won a game last week against Mill Hill and won well, and it’s a derby– I think form goes out of the window.

“We are missing a few players, but fingers crossed we will have enough to take the win.”

Askam have injures to Matthew France and Craig Moore otherwise the Duddon Road club should have a full squad from which to select.

Another cracking derby is on the cards in Division Two when Walney Island host the visit of Millom, while in the Premier League Crooklands Casuals are at home to Thornton Cleveleys and Vickerstown travel to Eagley.

Holker Old Boys, fresh from their 8-0 North West Counties Division One victory over visiting Whitchurh Alport, will be bubbling with confidence.

Manager Scott Redhead will be hoping to put more points in the bag again tomorrow with Rochdale Town heading to Rakesmoor Lane.
