ASKAM were held to a 3-3 draw at home to CMB in a West Lancs Division One encounter that swayed one way and then the other.


While the scoreline of the day came up the road in Kirkby – with the scoring a 22-0 win over Furness Rovers reserves in the Furness Premier League – it was a tighter affair at Duddon Road.

The Villagers welcomed CMB on to an impeccably turned out surface to which the Askam players have grown accustomed.

However, it was CMB who found the going good early on and they were 2-0 up inside 15 minutes.

Callum Rayner dragged Askam back into the game after 20 minutes and, not long after half-time, he doubled his tally to level the scores at 2-2.

The hosts were now in the ascendancy and went ahead when Ryan Brown finished off to make it 3-2, but the scoring was not finished there and CMB equalised with only minutes remaining, meaning the points were shared.

Elsewhere in the division, Dalton’s game at Mill Hill was postponed due to a frozen pitch and GSK Ulverston Rangers were on the wrong end of an 8-0 scoreline at Haslingden St Mary’s.

In Division Two, Furness Cavaliers were given a lesson in clinical finishing, going down 3-2 at home to Blackpool Wren Rovers reserves.

Dan Watts and Ryan Rogers scored for Cavs, who were guilty of spurning a number of chances. Wrens put away their opportunities when it mattered.

Furness Rovers were beaten 4-3 at home by Burscough Richmond reserves. Rovers’ goal-scorers Jones, Edgely and Tindale.

Swarthmoor were beaten 4-0 at home by Croston Sports.

In the Premier Division, Crooklands Casuals travelled to Blackpool to play Wrens Rovers, but the referee deemed the pitch unfit due to the overnight frost and called the game off.

Vickerstown took a depleted side to Hesketh Bank and were beaten 5-2, their goals coming from Danny Keenan and a great finish from promising youngster Jackson Round.

In North West Counties Division One, Holker Old Boys continued their good progress under their new management team by beating Litherland REMYCA 1-0, Jamie Pattinson with the goal just before the half-hour-mark.

In the Furness Senior Cup, Walney Island and Haverigg locked horns on the superb playing surface at Tummerhill and, after being 2-0 ahead at halftime and 3-1 up with 15 minutes to play, it looked like Walney would progress to the next round.

But Haverigg staged a late comeback to take the tie into a penalty shootout, which they duly won.

Goalscorers for Walney were Lockley, Sollaway and Savage, while John Chmiel (2) and Anthony Foster replied for Haverigg.

In the Furness Junior Cup, Cartmel A beat Barrow Celtic reserves 3-1. Celtic went 1-0 up through Chris Treen, but then had their goalkeeper sent off. The stand-in keeper saved the resulting penalty, but the extra player proved too much for Celtic, as Tom Wilson, Stuart Taylor and Richard Spendlove scored a goal apiece for Cartmel.

In the Riflemans Garage Furness Premier League, Barrow Celtic drew 2-2 with Holker Old Boys reserves at Newby Terrace.

Josh Woodend and Paul Southward scored for Holker, while Barrow Celtic’s goals came from Rob Johnson and a late equaliser from Connor Smith.

Bootle lost 3-2 at home to Millom reserves. Graham Hartley and Matt Clarke scored for Bootle. Andrew Woodburn, Mike Plews and Chris Wood made sure Millom took the points and the bragging rights on this occasion.

Britannia played Walney Island reserves for the second week running and after last week’s 4-4 draw on Tummerhill.

Brit ran out 2-1 winners on their home patch thanks to goals from Liam Holmes and Dillon James.

GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves beat Furness Cavaliers reserves 4-1. Aaron Holligan scored for Cavs, but one goal was never going to be enough and a Reis Sharp double, along with goals from Lewis Jones and Isaac Prosser, gave GSK all three points.

Kirkby moved a point clear at the top and gave their goal difference a shot in the arm after that remarkable 22-0 win over Furness Rovers reserves.

Paul Cleasby (5), Tom Wildgoose (3), Connor Saunders (3), Lee Tracey (3), John Marrs (3), Andy Doull (2), Matty Bruce, Rob Fugler and Mark Jackson shared the spoils.

Croftlands’ game at Vickerstown was called off due to an electrical fault over at Park Vale, as well as a frozen pitch.

In Division One, leaders Hawcoat Park A were beaten 3-1 at home by Vickerstown A.

Mike Imison, Andy Higginson and Robbie McMurdo scored for the visitors, Craig Muncaster replied for Hawcoat.

Crooklands Casuals reserves were beaten 6-2 at home by Barrow Wanderers. Wanderers’ scorers were Andy Forristal, with a hat-trick, one of which was a brilliant left-footed volley, and Craig McIlvogue (2).

Askam United reserves travelled to Haverigg reserves and came away with all three points after a 5-0 win, with goals coming from Brad Jackson (3), Declan Kell and Declan Bowman.

Ormsgill North End and Coniston played out a 2-2 draw. Ormsgill’s scorers Danny Cunningham and Paul Williams. Scott Edmondson and Matthew Leece replied for Coniston.

Two games were played in Division Two, with Bridge United and Kirkby United reserves sharing six goals in a 3-3 draw.

Tyler Silver, Josh Greenwood and Reece Craig were on target for Bridge, with Harrison, Smith and Aitken likewise for Kirkby.

FC Barrow Island beat Bootle reserves 7-2. Island’s goals were scored by Paul Fleming (4), Jonny Barnard, Chris Taylor and Danny Turner. Kev Hartley grabbed both for Bootle.
