FURNESS Cavaliers pulled off a Furness Senior Cup shock as they reached the semi-finals with victory over Crooklands Casuals.

Marc McAloone’s side defeated a team a division further up the West Lancs League structure on penalties at Rampside Road.

Cavaliers were 2-0 up after the in-form Kyle Delves and Sam Graham both found the net, but Crooklands were level by half-time through efforts from Daniel Sharpe and Steve Caskie.

Delves scored a great solo effort to put Cavaliers 3-2 up, and it was 4-2 and seemingly game over when Sam Graham nodded home.

Crooklands were not done though, and scored twice in time added on through an own goal and a David Woodburn strike to level the scores at 4-4.

The game went straight to penalties, and Cavaliers keeper Max Bickerdike was the hero as he saved three of the six he faced.

In the other quarter-final tie, West Lancs Division Two promotion hopefuls Millom faced Vickerstown reserves and progressed after a 4-1 win.

Phil Edmondson (2), Ben McDonald and Jordan Brumby all found the net for Millom. They did not have it all their own way, however, after an Ian Rogers thunderbolt had levelled the scores at half-time.

Hawcoat Park reserves picked up another three points in their quest for the Furness Premier League title with a 5-0 win at Millom reserves.

Carl Pearson (2), Matty Pickering, Sam Jefferson and Carl Mackay were all on target for Hawcoat. Jordan Rooney produced a man-of-the-match display.

Haverigg United are doing all they can to stay in the title hunt after beating Barrow Celtic 2-0. Celtic started the better of the sides, but with half-time approaching John Chmiel chased a seemingly lost cause and got his rewards with a goal.

Haverigg had to do most of the defending in the second period, but after a good break from Luke Chmiel, Josh Shaw was on hand to double the lead and secure the points.

Reigning champions Croftlands Park beat Britannia 5-1. Brit took the lead through Sean Darby, but Ryan Ireland, Mike Tomsett and a Chris Malone penalty had the hosts 3-1 up at half-time. A second-half brace from Dan Craig sealed the win.

In the battle of the bottom two, it was Coniston who came out on top with a 1-0 win at Dalton United reserves thanks to a Ben Clarke goal. Referee Jimmy McLeish once again received plaudits from both teams after the match.

Bootle continued their excellent run of form with a 3-1 victory at Furness Cavaliers reserves. Tom Heap scored a spectacular 30-yard effort for Cavs, but Joe Capstick, Conner Nuttall and Steve Pritt all scored for Bootle in a match they dominated. Best wishes go to Cavs player Steve Critchley, who suffered a nasty knee injury in the final minute.

Swarthmoor returned to winning ways with a 1-0 success over Holker Old Boys reserves, their danger man Graham Wilcox with the goal.

Kane Moffett scored a hat-trick for Walney Island reserves, but it was in vain as they lost 6-3 to Kirkby United. Lee Cleasby (3), Smith, Wildgoose and debutant Jack Gardner were all on target for the Villagers.

In the Horne Cup, Croftlands Park reserves progressed after a 5-3 win over Askam reserves

Barrow Celtic reserves are also in the hat for the next round after a 6-1 victory over Ormsgill. Stu Thompson (4) and the evergreen Ash Daly (2) were on target for Celtic.

Kirkby United reserves join them in progressing, beating Holker Old Boys A on penalties after the game finished 3-3. Josh Hudson, Tom Harrison and Josh English scored for Kirkby, while credit goes to Holker, who battled back from 2-0 and 3-2 down. Chris Squire (2) and Wyll Stanway scored their goals.

In Furness Division One, Swarthmoor reserves drew 2-2 with Millom A. Ethan Cole and Jack Moore scored for the home side, while Mark O’Brien and Stu Pattinson replied for Millom.

Furness Rovers reserves drew 4-4 with Bridge United. Ash Allonby (2), Jake Simpson and Jamie Edgley all scored for Furness Rovers in an entertaining game.

Vickerstown A lost 6-0 to Barrow Wanderers. Ryan Docherty (3), Jed Wilkinson, Dylan Scullion and Nath Pye (2) – on his return to football after 2 years away from the club – found the net.

In Division Two, Bootle reserves bounced back from four losses on the spin to beat Britannia reserves 6-1.

Bootle were 3-0 up thanks to goals from Chris Scott (2) and Dave Singleton, but Brit were never out of the game until sub Matty Lampitt came on to bag himself a hat-trick. Charlie Shaw found the net for Britannia.

GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves drew 1-1 with Millom St James. Curtis McAloone was on target for GSK, Connor Brumby scored for Millom.

In the West Lancs Premier Division, Vickerstown welcomed back Danny Keenan from Holker Old Boys, and it was last season’s top-scorer who found the net in their 1-0 triumph at Turton. Andy Ireland was impressive between the sticks.

In Division One, Hawcoat Park beat Eagley 3-1 thanks to goals from Joe Tindale, Mike Melia and Mike Wilkes.

It was not such good news for GSK Ulverston Rangers, as they lost 2-1 at home to Lostock St Gerards, Andy Whiteford scored a late penalty for GSK. Askam also lost 4-0, away to Hurst Green.

Division Two action saw Dalton United become the first team to beat Leyland in the league this season.

In an eventful game, Leyland scored after two minutes, but a Gareth Jones double secured a deserved 2-1 victory. The visitors had three men sent off after the goals had been scored.

Furness Rovers picked up another three points with a 2-0 win at Kendal United. Tyler Wood and Josh Jones grabbed a goal each in a win that lifts them from the foot of the table.

Holker Old Boys picked up three points on their travels after a 3-0 win at Daisy Hill in North West Counties Division One. Goals came from James Bonner and a JP Stanway double.
