GEORGIA Stanway's fine footballing year has been recognised as she was named on the shortlist for the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year.

The Barrow teenager earned a first England call-up last month and has been in impressive form for Manchester City, helping them reach the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals and contend for the Women's Super League crown.

Stanway is one of three City players on the shortlist, alongside Ellie Roebuck and Keira Walsh. They are joined by Chelsea's Scottish midfielder Erin Cuthbert, Everton defender Gabby George and Bristol City's 17-year-old forward Lauren Hemp.

It is the second time the South Cumbrian ace has been shortlisted for the prize, having also been up for it last season.

In recent weeks, she has scored twice in the Champions League win over Swedish side Linkopings, having returned from the USA, where she was part of Phil Neveille's England squad at the SheBelieves Cup.

The winner of the young player of the year prize will be announced at the PFA awards ceremony in London on Sunday.
