MILLOM’S West Lancs Division Two promotion bid hit a slight buffer this week, but they have the chance to put that right tomorrow.

A busy week of local fixtures saw Walney Island hold their rivals to a goalless draw at Tummerhill on Monday.

Millom are still well in the hunt for a top-two finish, sitting seven points behind second-placed Ladybridge but with five games in hand.

They have a great chance to add to their tally when they travel to second-bottom Padiham reserves tomorrow.

A second South Cumbrian derby saw Furness Rovers continue their good form with a 2-1 win at Furness Cavaliers.

Ryan Fagan grabbed both Rovers’ goals as they climbed to 11th in the table on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run, while Kyle Delves hit a late reply for Cavaliers.

Rovers will look to extend their good form as they travel to Euxton Villa reserves, sitting one place and one point below them in the table, tomorrow afternoon.

In Division One, GSK Ulverston Rangers picked up a point at home after a 2-2 draw against Milnthorpe Corinthians. Stu Smith and Chris Bolton were on target for the hosts.

Hawcoat Park beat Askam United 3-2 at Duddon Road after coming from 2-1 down with only minutes left on the clock. Dec Baines and Callum Rayner scored for Askam either side of Hawcoat’s Ollie Jackson, only for Elliott Moore to net a brace for the visitors and take all three points.

Five Riflemans Garage Furness Premier Division fixtures took place in the week, and although Hawcoat Park reserves have already been crowned champions, there is still plenty to be decided in the remaining fixtures.

In the race for second place, Barrow Celtic did themselves no harm by beating Britannia 6-1.

Andy Hainey (3), Jono France and a Jack Pedley double made up the half dozen for Celtic, while Andy Whiteford scored the Brit’s consolation.

Celtic travel to in-form Bootle tomorrow.

Holker Old Boys reserves put a dent in Kirkby United’s chances of finishing second with a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Jack Stoker, Morgan Gwynne and Sam Hunt.

Croftlands Park beat Furness Rovers reserves 4-2, with Chris Wraighte (2), Matt Dean and Paul Shields their scorers. Ben Tiffney and Jordan Hughes replied for Cavs.

Walney Island reserves beat Swarthmoor – who host champions Hawcoat tomorrow – 2-1. Jimmy Burns and a late Jack Lawson strike secured the points.

Vickerstown reserves beat Dalton United reserves 12-1. Danny Keenan scored four, Sam Johnson and Andy Higginson completed braces, and Mark Johnson, Kev Baharmanesh, Mike Imison and Ian Rogers completed the rout.

In Division One, Hawcoat Park A kept the pressure on leaders Millom A at the top of the table with a 3-1 win at Swarthmoor reserves.

Hawcoat’s Ryan Muncaster and a Carl Mackay double cancelled out a Josh Price goal for Swarthmoor, closing the gap to five points with a game in hand.

There was plenty of drama at Lesh Lane, as Barrow Wanderers came from 3-0 down at half-time against Askam United reserves to lead 4-3, only to then give away a late penalty in a 4-4 draw.

Craig McIlvogue started the comeback, and Jed Wilkinson, Jordan Wallace and Sean Balfour thought they had done enough, but Askam drew level with the spot-kick.

Holker Old Boys bounced back from defeat on Saturday in emphatic style by beating Bacup Borough 5-2 in their own back yard in North West Counties Division One.

Brandon Collins scored a hat-trick, while Billy Moss and Josh Tweddle were also on target for Guy Heffernan’s side, who host Eccleshall tomorrow.
