THE local football action came thick and fast this week, starting on Monday when games took place in the West Lancashire League Division Two and Furness Premier League Division One.

Millom took step closer to securing promotion in the West Lancs League with an 8-0 triumph in the derby match with Furness Cavaliers.

Jamie Pattinson scored twice, while Phil Edmondson, Drew Postlethwaite, Lee Postlethwaite, Carl Waters, Dave Cooper and Theo Wilson got in on the scoring act as well.

Ryan Docherty and Scott McDonald were on target to earn Barrow Wanderers a 2-1 win at home to Swarthmoor reserves. Lewis Sullivan netted for the hosts.

Barrow Celtic reserves were 2-1 winners against Vickerstown A as well, with Alex Hall and Craig Hyde scoring for Celtic.

Crooklands Casuals prevailed in a seven-goal thriller against Askam United reserves, with two from Tony Butler, and one apiece from Kev Edwards and Ben Phizacklea seeing them win 4-3.

The Paul Wilson Memorial Trophy quarter-finals took centre stage on Tuesday evening and Vickerstown reserves sprang a surprise by knocking out Premier Division champions Hawcoat Park reserves 4-3.

A double from Andy Higginson, plus one each for Ian Rogers and 16-year-old Tom Dawson saw Vickerstown get the better of Hawcoat, whose goals at Park Vale came from Gregg Sharp, Carl Mackay and Carl Pearson.

A hat-trick from Rob Johnson sent Barrow Celtic through to the semi-finals as well as they defeated Orsmgill North End 3-1, with Mike Crampton getting the consolation for the visitors.

Two from Jack Gardner and one apiece from Sim Pinnegor and Alistair Bradley saw Kirkby United down Haverigg United 4-3, Haverigg's goals coming from John Chmiel, Paul Barker and Craig Robinson.

Holders Holker Old Boys reserves completed the semi-final line-up with a 2-1 victory against Croftlands Park thanks to strikes from Jordan Brough and Mark Daly.

Elsewhere on the night, Crooklands wrapped up their West Lancashire League Division One campaign with a 3-1 defeat at home to Milnthorpe Corinthians, with Matthew Pearson grabbing Cassies' consolation.

Elliot Moore netted three for Hawcoat Park in their 5-1 derby victory over GSK Ulverston Rangers. Hacken McCracken and Joe Tindale got Hawcoat's others, and Andy Whiteford replied for GSK.

An own goal saw Furness Rovers edge Dalton United 1-0 in Division Two and Vickerstown went down 7-1 to title-chasing Garstang in the Premier Division.

The Horne Cup reached the quarter-final stage on Wednesday evening, where goals from Tony Butler and Liam Curwen saw Crooklands reserves edge out Millom A 2-1.

Kirkby reserves got the better of Furness Rovers reserves 3-2 thanks to strikes from Huw Barton, Dan Marshall and Christian Petersen.

Shaun Dixon, Sam Metcalf, Joe Cowperthwaite and Charlie Segger were on target to see Croftlands Park reserves defeat Millom St James 4-2, with Kyle Jones getting both for Millom, and Bridge United saw off Vickerstown A 5-2.
