AMATEUR FOOTBALL
ROLL out the red carpet, there could be some royalty on the way to Barrow-based amateur football club Holker Old Boys this coming season, writes LEE PROCTER.
Actor Ralf Little, the star of hit television comedy The Royle Family, may be in line visit Holker’s Rakesmoor Lane home with his new Stone Dominoes team-mates.
The Staffordshire club’s official website says 27-year-old Little – who played family dogsbody Anthony Royale in the BAFTA award-winning BBC series – is their new showbiz signing.
Stone Dominoes play their football in the same division as Holker Old Boys – North West Counties Division One.
The league’s 2008/09 full fixture list is yet to be released, but Holker will play Stone Dominoes at least twice during the forthcoming campaign.
The Stone Dominoes website says: “Ralf first established links with the club when he played in a charity match last November.
“When our assistant manager Jamie Cartwright moved down to London to work last year, he became friends with Ralf, who he met at a charity game, and Ralf told him he would like to play for us.
“Ralf has definitely signed for us, but due to work commitments his appearances may be limited.”
Little is also famous for playing Jonny Keogh in sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.
Holker’s first game of the league season is at home against Oldham Town on Saturday, August 9.
