VICKERSTOWN maintained their unbeaten start to the North Lancs and Cumbria Division Two season with victory over Lindal Moor A at Rainey Park.

The hosts made a bad start after batting first, but Peter Lee made 42, and four other batsmen – Craig Daly, Matt Roskell, John Burns and Dean Litherland – went past 30, and they were 216 for 7 at tea.

Chris Moore again bowled well to take 3 for 31 in his 15 overs for Lindal, having the hosts 9 for 2 at one stage.

The Moor will be disappointed with their reply as they were bowled out for 107. Brad Marshall, batting at number, eight made 46.

Cleator A’s bowling attack ensured they defeated Hawcoat Park.

After tea, the Hawcoat Park batsmen found David Glover too hot to handle and were back in the shed for 61. Glover took 8 for 27 in his 15 overs. Egremont made short work of Furness A at Oxford Street. The visitors made 179 for 8 and then skittled the homes side for 43.

There was batter new for the Furness first team as they avenged their Higson Cup defeat at Wigton with victory in the league.

The visitors were put in and lost three cheap wickets. But a good recovery by skipper Scott Pearcey, 78, and Nathan Waterston, 79, saw them to 213 for 7 in their 50 overs. Ben Purdham took 3 for 62 in 15 overs.

Wigton's reply started with the loss of an early wicket, but then they gave an excellent batting display to finish on 212 for 7, two runs short of what would have been an excellent win.

Mike Slack, 51, Angus Harman, 49, and Tom Fleming, 33, gave Wigton hope before an unbroken eighth-wicket partnership between Theo Manihera, 35 not out, and Ben Purdham, 17 not out, just failed to get the win.

Dalton took the points at the Playground against Whitehaven.

The home side had first knock and, with Dave Watson's 46, and three other players getting into the 20s, had to be satisfied with 140 all out in the 49th over. Johannes Diseko took 4 for 26 in 15 overs.

Workington won the battle of the unbeaten sides at Cockermouth.

The hosts were put in for the first match at Sandair this season following the damage caused by flooding and it was not a happy return as the top six batsmen were sent back with only 36 runs between them.

Sam Sharp, with 25 and Andrew Cameron, 24, did well to get their side to 117 all out. Matthew Lowden had a great spell, taking 6 for 21 in 14 overs.

Workington also had problems batting, but opener Greg Platten, 24, and Simon Beare, 22, saw them home at 118 for 6. Theodore Valeri took 3 for 29 in 8.2 overs.

Cleator won a match reduced to 38 overs per side at Keswick.

Millom beat Kirkby at the Community Centre after running up a mammoth 286 all out. Graham Dawson made 117 and Danny Fallows 41. Mark Etchells took 5 for 85 and Mike Etchells 3 for 47.

The visitors had first knock and, with Paul Glascott and Marc Brown both making 35 and Alex Raybould 34, they were all out for 168. Steve Evans took 4 for 25 in 9.2 overs.

Haverigg's reply was always below par and they were dismissed for 115. Dalton Polius made 33 and Phil Frazer took 3 for 13.

Ulverston were victors at Workington A despite the hosts starting well through openers Andrew Reed, 46, and Jordan Whinn, 31, as they were 156 for 8 after their 50 overs. Stuart Cooper took 4 for 41.

But the Barrow bowlers, led by Daryl Wearing’s 4 for 34, skittled their hosts for 88 – with only opener Chris Parkinson, with 51, reaching double figures.

Leyland made 224 for six in their 45 overs – James Rounding scoring 102 – before dismissing the home side for 95. Robin Adams and Ian Allington both made 27, but no-one else reached double figures.
