LIAM Livingstone made an unsuccessful return to Ernest Pass as Barrow lost a low-scoring affair against South Cumbrian rivals Kendal.

Livingstone – who has enjoyed a fantastic first full season in the Lancashire first team – couldn’t prevent his first club Barrow falling to a 26-run defeat in their Northern League Division One clash.

Barrow must have been in confident mood after putting the visitors in and dismissing for them for just 69 in 40 overs – helped by bowler-friendly conditions, the result of heavy overnight rain.

But Barrow found the going even tougher in reply with only skipper and opening bat Toby Mowat making double figures as he scored 15. Livingstone, playing as the club’s sub-pro, went in at first wicket down and lasted just six balls as he was caught and bowled for 1.

Chris Miller was the hero for Kendal as his 8 for 16 ripped through the Barrow batting order.

Barrow suffered an eight-wicket defeat to leaders Blackpool yesterday, but Mowat's men remain in a top four place with one game to go after a pretty successful season.

Lindal’s dreams of winning the North Lancs and Cumbria League Division One title ended as Carlisle beat Ulverston to secure the championship and promotion to the Premier Division.

Ulverston were put into bat at home to Carlisle and struggled to 87 for 9 when the overs ran out. In reply Carlisle wasted no time getting the runs, making 88 for 3 in only 17 overs, and the divisional title and promotion were gained, so they will replace Whitehaven in the Premier Division next season.

Lindal did their bit by winning at Workington A. Winning the toss, Moor asked Workington to bat and it seemed a good decision as the home side slumped to 32 for 5.

Liam Hazzard, 31, and Matthew Young, 22, made some recovery but their side were all out in the 41st over for 88.

John Atkinson ended an excellent season taking 4 for 44 in his 15 overs and Harris Woods 3 for 9 in 5.3 overs.

Lindal’s innings had a disastrous start, being reduced to 28 for five. Opener Callum McDougall hung on but when he went for 21, it was 47 for 6.

However, Chris Scrogham at number eight made 35 not out off 45 deliveries and his side won in the 34th over, scoring 90 for 7. Workington skipper Liam Hazzard took 4 for 35 in 11 overs.

Haverigg had first knock at Kirkby, and another century from West Indian professional Dalton Polius saw the visitors to 209 all out in 48 overs. In reply Kirkby were all out for 153 in 43 overs.

In the Premier Division at Cleator home side were in first against Dalton and mainly due to another good innings of 82 from Darren Clark, they were all out for 189. Dalton’s Liam Curwen returned 4 for 34. In reply Dalton were always struggling and were all out for 122, David Blackwell taking 4 for 35.

Workington, the new league champions, were at Furness Park, home of the former league champions for six of the previous seven seasons.

A below-strength Furness batted first and lost wickets at regular intervals. Four batsmen got into the twenties, but nobody went on to make a big score, and the side were all out in the 40th over for 121.

Workington’s veteran off spinner Simon James took four for 18 in 9 overs. In reply, Workington also found runs difficult to come by, but 46 from Greg Platten, and 29 from skipper Callum Moffatt saw them remain unbeaten throughout the season.

It was a strange game at Wigton where batting first Whitehaven’s top seven batsmen were back in the shed for a total of 24 runs.

Dave Watson, batting at number eight, then made 83 off 66 deliveries with two fours and eight sixes, and with support from Rob Carlill with 29, Whitehaven were all out in the 40th over for 150.

Wigton’s Glen Liddle took 6 for 23 in his 15 overs. Wigton coasted to the win in the 30th over at 152 for 1, Mike Slack making 69, and Nico Watt 50 not out, leaving Whitehaven without a win all season.

In the second division relegation battle, Hawcoat Park, put into bat would be satisfied with their 187 on the board at tea. After the break Lindal Moor A made a spirited reply, but when overs ran out were 164 for 7, and will play in Division Three in 2017.

No play was possible in any of the other scheduled fixtures due to heavy overnight rain.
