IN-FORM Haverigg pro Dalton Polius completed a personal bank holiday bonanza in the narrow win over neighbours Millom in Division One of the North Lancs and Cumbria League.

The St Lucian followed his unbeaten century at Ulverston with another match-winning knock of 92 as Haverigg reached 179 all out. Graham Dawson bagged 5 for 42.

But Polius wasn’t finished after his impressive knock, taking four wickets for 25 as the visitors fought to recover after a terrible start that had their top six batsmen back in the pavilion for just 45.

A stand between Dominic Connor (55) and skipper Mike Wilson (36) gave Millom fresh hope but following their dismissal the tailenders did not last too long and Millom were all out for 167.

Up in the Premier Division New Zealander Seth Rance bowled Furness to a 20-run win at Dalton where both sides found runs hard to come by. Furness were the first to find the going tough and with Mark Gadsden top scoring they eventually clawed their way to 91 all out in 40 overs. Johannes Diseko claimed five for 16.

The home side found the going tough and paceman Rance rattled them with a return of seven for 26 as Dalton slumped to 71 all out. At Lindal Ed Waind continued his impressive form with knock of 105 against Carlisle.

Solid support from Mark Daly, with 34, helped Lindal to reach 241 for eight at tea. Carlisle never looked like challenging such a total despite a fair start when their top three hit 59. Sadly for them the rest managed only 26 and the visitors slumped to 85 all out.

The men who did the damage were John Atkinson with five for 25 and Mark Daly who followed his useful innings with four for 31 in 13 overs.

The place for a real run feast was up the coast at Seascale where Ulverston were the visitors.

Stuart Cooper, with 117, led the run spree as Ulverston amassed an impressive 318 for nine. He had plenty of support from David Blain with 63. The home side also had a good day with the bat but, despite a century from Steve Brown junior they fell well short when they were all out for 252. Cooper and Shane Lewis eached bagged three wickets for the visitors.

Kirkby’s trip to Workington A in Division One ended in a fine victory when they overhauled the home side’s 212 for nine with five wickets to spare.

Tidy bowling from Mark Etchells (3 for 33) and Tom Marshall (3 for 40) helped to keep the home side in check. Kirkby openers James Thornton (87) and Paul New (42) gave them a solid start and they got home with plenty to spare.

In the Premier Division Workington were too strong for neighbours Whitehaven and romped to a 171-run victory after dismissing their hosts for only 86 in reply to an impressive 257 for nine.

At Wigton, a knock of 57 from Geeth Kumara was not enough to save Keswick from a four wicket defeat Cleator’s three-wicket win at Cockermouth was never in doubt after the home side were restricted to 173 for 8.

But the result was reversed when the two second elevens met at Cleator, the visitors wrapping up a 72-run victory.

In Division Two Hawcoat Park had a Kris McLean century to thank for their two-wicket win over Furness who made 185 all out, while at Rainey Park, Vickerstown A had a comfortable seven-wicket win over Dalton.

Lindal Moor narrowly won a high-scoring game at Egremont. Paul Clark with 77, Chris Brookshaw (76) and Marley John-Spence (55) got the bulk of the 233 for 3 total.

Lindal’s Brad Marshall took 6 for 63 as the home side fell just 11 sort of their target.
