HAVERIGG kept in touch with the leading bunch in the North Lancs and Cumbria League Division One with a five-wicket win at Rainey Park.

Put in to bat, home side Vickerstown lost wickets regularly to be all out for 66 in the 37th over. Haverigg’s West Indian pro Dalton Polius grabbed 5 for 8.

In reply, Haverigg made hard work of reaching the target, and at one time were 9 for 4. However, they went to the win in the 16th over, making 68 for 5.

Vickerstown skipper Gareth Benson returned 4 for 21.

Batting first against Millom, Seascale made no headway against the Millom attack and were all out for 76 in 35 overs.

Millom went to 80 without loss in the 19th over.

Batting first against Ulverston, Workington seconds made steady progress. Opener Stephen Miller top scored with 35, and with three other batsmen getting into the twenties, the visitors made 161 for 9 at tea.

Shane Lewis took 4 for 43 in 10 overs and Stuart Cooper 4 for 49 in 14 overs, doing a good job for Ulverston.

The home side’s reply followed the same pattern as their opponents. Gareth Yates led the way with 39 as Ulverston went to a good win at 162 for 7 in the 46th over. Workington’s Paul McKeown turned back the clock to take 4 for 49 in his 15 overs.

Leaders Lindal Moor played second-placed Whitehaven and it ended in an exciting tied game, each side making 180 all out, to take seven points each.

Lindal Moor were in first and made a good start. Kenroy Peters top scored with 57, and contributions from Alasdair Grunshaw, 51, Cal McDougall, 29, and Paul Wilcock, 25, saw Moor to 180 all out in the 49th over. Whitehaven’s Habib Baloch took 4 for 61 in his 15 overs.

Whitehaven’s reply started shakily, but opener Stephen Holliday, 41, and Jonathan Stewart, 57, put their side back in the game, and it was John Atkinson’s superb bowling spell that saw Whitehaven lose their last wicket with the scores level. Atkinson’s 5 for 52 in 15 overs kept his side on top.

Furness kept the pressure on Workington at the top of the Premier Division with a five-wicket win over Keswick.

The visitors decided to bat first at Furness Park, and with their deputy professional A Tasawar making 92, they reached 163 for 9 in their 50 overs, with Furness pro Seth Rance taking 4 for 50.

In reply Furness cruised to the win, reaching 166 for 5 in the 29th over, with Mike Gadsden making 45, and Mark Daly an unbeaten 41.

Leaders Workington stayed out in front with an eight-wicket win over Dalton. Dalton had first knock and would be disappointed with another poor display, being dismissed in the 42nd over for 86.

Professional Madawa Warnapura top scored with 33 before being run out. Workington’s Matthew Lowden grabbed 3 for 31 in 15 overs and Kaushalya Gajasinghe took 3 for 27 in 14 overs to put their side in control.

Workington went to a comfortable win in the 17th over at 87 for 2, with Tony Butler taking both wickets.

In first against Cockermouth, Carlisle made 220 for 7, with their opponents producing a good effort in replay before falling short at 183 all out. Chris Hodgson top scored with 65. Carlisle pro Justin Greaves took 6 for 21 in 12.1 overs.

Cleator batted first against Wigton and to good effect as they made 247 for 3 in their 50 overs. Darren Clark made 92 and Tom Sharpe, 75. In reply, Wigton could only make 142, David Rooney taking three wickets.

Cockermouth seconds had first knock, but found the Kirkby attack a bit of a handful and were all out for 109 in their Division Two match. Mike Etchells took 5 for 38.

In reply, Kirkby cruised to a win, making 110 for 2.

Cleator A batted first against Hawcoat Park and in their 50 overs were 161 for 7. In reply Hawcoat Park were all out for 130.

Dalton seconds were in first and made 152 all out against Egremont, who struggled with the bat and mainly due to Liam Curwen’s 5 for 30 in 15 overs, the visitors were 129 all out.

Put into bat in their Division Three match against Egremont A, Ulverston A soon lost both openers, but Jamie Butterworth, with 91, and Rashid Ahmad, with 36, saw the visitors to 190 for 8 in their 40 overs.

Egremont’s Ollie Wilford took 4 for 50 in his 10 overs. In reply the Egremont top order were soon dismissed and only Wilford’s 32 got Egremont to 122 for 9 when overs ran out, and Ulverston took the ten points. Rashid Ahmad took 3 for 6.

The top of the table clash was surprisingly one-sided. Lindal A won the toss and batted. Only Chris Scrogham batted with authority to make an important 60 as the Moor totalled 148 all out in the 40th over. Whitehaven A’s Lewis Keeler took 4 for 33 in his 10 overs and Clark Pattinson 3 for 11 in 6 overs.

Whitehaven’s reply never got off the ground and they were 51 all out in the 19th over, Craig Crawford taking 5 for 9 and Stewart Todhunter, 3 for 4.

In first against Vickerstown A, Haverigg A made 155 for 9 in their 40 overs. Tony Johnson, with 35, and Gavyn Chesher, 34, were the main contributors.

Vickerstown’s Arnie Luxon took 3 for 27 in his 10 overs.

In reply, the Walney side struggled. Brody Luxon worked hard for his 23, but his side were all out in the 30th over for 70. Haverigg’s Sam Huddleston returned 3 for 8 and Tony Johnston, 3 for 24.

* Barrow’s miserable run in the Northern League continued as they suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Blackpool. Captain Toby Mowat made a defiant unbeaten 50 for Barrow, but he was the only player to get into double figures as they were bowled out for just 83. Barrow A also lost by eight wickets against Blackpool A.
