NORTH Lancs And Cumbria League cricketers are hoping Manchester proves to be a happy hunting ground once again as they bid for Inter-League final glory.

The league's senior team take on the Greater Manchester League at Prestwich CC on Sunday aiming to win the regional competition outright for the first since 2010.

It was six years ago that Penrith's Nicky Burns captained the League XI to an impressive six-wicket win over the Manchester Cricket Association at Euxton CC.

And while two years ago North Lancs shared the title with the Liverpool and District Competition after the final was washed out, they would love to claim the honour of being the region's top dogs.

This time the side will be led by Cleator's Darren Clark, and there are two survivors from the team who triumphed in 2010 - Furness paceman Peter Lawson and Mark Daly, his former Rams team-mate, who now plays his cricket at Lindal Moor.

Joining them are the Furness batting trio of Scott Pearcey, Nathan Waterston and Garry Thompson, Lindal's spinning all-rounder Ed Waind, plus Wigton pair Nico Watt and Angus Harman, Andrew Ireland of Premier Division champions-elect Workington and Carlisle's Alex Calmy.

Waterston was the hero of North Lancs' triumph over the Ribblesdale League which confirmed their place in Sunday's final. He hit 65 off 53 balls in that 73-run victory, while pace duo Lawson, 3 for 33, and Calmy, 2 for 39, also played their part.

The side certainly has a balanced look about it with plenty of all-round talent, and in Clark and Daly they have genuine match-winners at this level.

Tomorrow's league action sees reigning Premier Division champions Furness host Cockermouth knowing their chances of catching Workington at the top are hanging by the tiniest of threads.

It's Dalton turn to try and become the first side to lower Workington's colours in the league all season as they head up the West Cumbrian coast.

Things are a lot tighter in Division One, with Lindal Moor heading to Kirkby chasing victory as they try and hunt down leaders Carlisle.

Barrow entertain lowly Morecambe in the Northern League Division One, with the seconds heading in the opposite direction.
