KIRKBY and Workington A were the only teams to get started in a rain-decimated North Lancs And Cumbria League cricket programme, writes Colin Bickerstaffe.

Saturday’s match was reduced to the minimum 60 overs in an effort to get a positive result in this Division One clash.

Kirkby batted first and were doing well at 145 for 3, but rain had the final word after 25 overs, and the game was abandoned.

Tom Marshall made 52 not out, and Rob Fugler 40. As each side took four points, it means Kirkby will play in the second division in 2017.

All the other games in the North Lancs League set-up were washed out, as were Barrow first and second team’s scheduled games against Chorley in the Northern League.
