LINDAL Moor A team got their hands on the Marsden Trophy – 12 months after the final should have been played.

The 2015 final between Lindal and Cockermouth A was called off no fewer than four times last season, meaning it had to rescheduled for this summer.

After winning the toss and deciding to field at Cleator on Sunday, Lindal saw Cockermouth reach 182 for 6 in their 45 overs – a tricky total to chase down.

The wickets were spread around for Moor, with youngsters Brad Stephens taking 2 for 28 and Harris Woods 2 for 48, while more experienced seamers Ben Osborne grabbed 2 for 32 and Chris Moore 1 for 39.

Lindal were in trouble at 20 for 3 after seven overs in reply, but a great partnership of 63 between Lee Stephens and Woods saw them back in contention at 83 for 4.

Further wickets tumbled but Stephens was still there, and when he was joined by number 10 Moore they saw their team home in a nervous finale.

Man-of-the-match Stephens was undefeated on 61, while Moore hit the winning runs to the boundary fence to see Moor over the line with three overs to spare.

Moor skipper Andy Baxter said: “It was a great game to be involved in and of course better to win.

“It is nice to be able to bring some silverware back to our new clubhouse.

“The set-up at Lindal is a good one to be at at the moment with everyone going forward.

“Thanks to the usual coach, committee, and ground staff.

“Good luck to our other teams who are in their respective finals this year – the first team in the Higson Cup, the B-team in the Melville Cup and South Lakes Maidens in the under-12s Stan Jones Cup.”
