LIAM Livingstone led Lancashire to his first victory as county captain – with an amazing turnaround against Somerset.

Lancashire won by 164 on the final day, despite being dismissed for just 109 on day one.

Livingstone led the charge with the bat in the County Championship Division One clash at Old Trafford as he added further grist to the mill for an international call-up in the near-future.

His knock of 68 made sure the first innings total was not stuck in double-figures, although it looked as though the match was in Somerset's control when they responded with 278 all.

However, Barrow Cricket Club product Livingstone – standing in for injured skipper Steven Croft – hit a first-class career best 168 in the second, enjoying a partnership of 245 for the third wicket with Alex Davies, who struck 130.

The 23-year-old South Cumbrian struck two sixes in his innings – including one to take him to his century – earning widespread praise for his variety of stroke-play and his determination.

His knock helped see the Red Rose to a total of 463 all out, leaving Somerset two-and-half sessions to reach a target 284 or to see the final day out.

The visitors were unable to do it, as they lost wickets with regularity before being dismissed for 130, as Lancashire took a first win of the season.
