BARROW cricket star Liam Livingstone described his maiden double century as "good fun".

Livingstone boosted his chances of an England Test call-up by hitting 224 to put second-placed Lancashire on course for a crucial Specsavers County Championship win over Warwickshire at Emirates Old Trafford.

England T20 batsman Livingstone batted through the entire day yesterday, facing 318 balls and hitting 25 fours and three sixes as he ended the day on 215 not out for his first career double hundred.

The 24-year-old Barrow CC product's heroics left the hosts in command in their Division One encounter with the struggling Bears.

Livingstone, who hit 168 in a Lancashire win over Somerset at Old Trafford earlier in the summer, said: “It was good fun.

"We sort of said at the start of the day to try and bat as long as we could, bat the full day out and see where we were.

“We’ve achieved that, and it’s exciting going into tomorrow.

“When you get the chance to get in and put a performance on for the team, that’s what everyone wants to do. It was nice to get in and go on to a big one.

“We’ve still got work to do tomorrow (Wednesday), but luckily we’re in a good position to push for the win over the next two days.

“Everyone’s looking for big performances. It’s a big part of the year. We’ve sort of put ourselves in a good position where we can push and try to win as many games as we can and see where we end up.”

Warwickshire seamer Chris Wright said: "It was a long day in the scheme of things. We tried as hard as we could and kept coming, but Livingstone performed really well. Credit to him. "I can't think of him giving away a chance."
