LINDAL Moor skipper Chris Moore has every faith his youthful side can claim Vigodny Cup glory.

The aptly-named captain leads a youthful Moor side containing a handful of talented teenage lads and lasses into battle against Egremont at Kirkby on Sunday, hoping to complete the first leg of a league and cup double (1pm start).

Lindal lead North Lancs and Cumbria League Division Three, and are a side bang in form, having yet to lose in 12 league matches this summer.

Moore says a lot of the Pennington Lane seconds' success this year has been down to rookies brought through the ranks under the guidance of club stalwarts Colin Knight and Paul Clarke.

“This season has really been about the emergence of our young players and getting them into the A-team cricket environment,” said Moore, whose wobbly seamers have been causing trouble for Lindal's opponents for many years now.

“We're in a fortunate position to have a thriving junior section, and the EPP (Emerging Players Programme) set up by Colin Knight and Paul Clarke has been a great success.

“I really hope we can do the business on Sunday, because it will be reward for all their hard work this season.

“We're also in a good position in the league, so hopefully this can be the first half of a double success for us.”

As well as the young guns, Moore also has experienced heads to call upon in the shape of former skipper Andy Baxter, dangerous batsman Chris Scrogham and paceman Lee Stephens, who will be returning to his cricketing roots at the Community Centre for the final.

It was Scrogham’s heroics with the bat which ensured Lindal’s passage into the final as he struck a magnificent century in the semi-final win against Whitehaven, while rookie Brad Stephens was the hero in the quarter-final victory over Haverigg.

Moore said of the Haverigg game: “It was a close game where at one stage it looked like the experienced Roy Carton was going to get them over the line with some big six-hitting, but a great spell of bowling from one of our youngsters Brad Stephens got us over the line.

“In the semi-final we played Whitehaven and came out with a more comfortable victory, a big hundred from Chris Scrogham setting up the win in the first innings.”
