LINDAL Moor claimed a big win over Ulverston to move top of the North Lancs and Cumbria League Division One.

The Moor produced an excellent batting display after being put in to bat at Pennington Lane, with each of the top five batsmen going past 30.

Edward Waind led the way with 96 and Lee Hogg made 58 not out to see their side go to 287 for 4 when overs ran out.

Ulverston will be disappointed to have been dismissed for 97 in the 35th over, Gareth Yates making 36. Mark Daly returned 6 for 32 in 15 overs.

Lindal were able to take top spot thanks to Millom’s triumph over previous leaders Carlisle at St George’s Road.

The hosts were put in and soon lost both openers, but the rest of the top-order were in good nick and, with a century in 89 balls from Graham Dawson, including eight fours and eight sixes, and 39 from Rob Thompson, they made 224 for 8 in their 50 overs.

Carlisle's Alex Calmy returned a creditable 3 for 36 in his 15 overs.

Carlisle showed little fight chasing the Millom total, and were all out for 113 in the 35th over.

Only skipper Marc Brown, with 47 off 52 balls, gave Millom problems. Home spinner Jack Thompson Jnr gave another good performance, taking 5 for 33 in nine overs, and Dawson returned 3 for 23 in 10.2 overs.

Seascale defeated Kirkby at the Community Ground, where they batted first and made 181 for 8.

Joe Hammond top-scored with 36 and Mike Etchells took six wickets for 53 in his 15 overs.

In reply, only Paul Fugler, with 36, and Paul Tyson with 29, gave Kirkby hope, but the side were all out for 130 in the 44th over. Steve Brown Jnr took 4 for 25 in 15 overs and Steve Brown Snr 3 for 47 in 14 overs.

A weakened Haverigg side had first knock at Workington A and, with 75 from professional Dalton Polius, were 228 for 5 at tea. Jordan Postlethwaite, with 42, Drew Postlethwaite, 33, and Gavyn Chesher, 32, gave good support.

Workington's Dave Pearce took 3 for 62 in 14 overs.

In reply, Workington lost an early wicket, but opener Andrew Reed hit an unbeaten century, Dave Pearce made 60 and skipper Liam Hazzard 45 to see them to the win at 229 for 3 in the 48th over.

In the Premier Division, Furness had first knock at Whitehaven only Ryan Griffiths, with 46, showed good form among the top-order. But the middle-order pushed their side to a respectable score of 239 for 9, with Garry Thompson making 42, and Jordan Buchanan 38.

Callum Lofthouse took 3 for 47 in 15 overs.

With the exception of David Watson, who made 112, Whitehaven failed to fire as there were six ducks in their 159 all out total. Furness pro Seth Rance took 6 for 49 in his 15 overs.

Leaders Workington defeated Cleator to stay in pole position.

Batting first, Cleator made a moderate start and were 50 for 4. A stand of 113 by Darren Clark, who made 77 not out, and Chris Quin, who finished on 40 not out, saw them recover to 163 for 4 when overs ran out.

Workington had a comfortable win, going to 166 for 5 as Kaushalya Gajasinghe made an unbeaten 50.

Dalton were not at their best with the bat against Keswick at Fitz Park, being all out for 133 in the 42nd over.

Tom Heywood made 27 and Joe Braund-Smith 24. Keswick's James McGowan took 4 for 30 and Geeth Kumara 4 for 32 to do most damage.

After tea, the home side were always on top, going to 134 for 3 in 39 overs, Ben Sharp making 61 and skipper Andrew Bryson 42.

Cockermouth were put into bat had a poor day at Wigton. Only Chris Hodgson got past 20 and his side were all out for 107 in the 45th over. Glen Liddle took 5 for 34 in 15 overs and skipper Michael Holliday claimed 3 for 7 in 4.5 overs.

Wigton openers Mike Slack, 58, and Nico Watt, 23, gave their side the ideal start and in 20 overs Wigton had won with 109 for 2 on the board to collect the 10 points and leave Cockermouth pointless.

In Division Two, Vickerstown maintained their 100 per cent record with victory over Cleator A.

Batting first, Cleator soon lost a wicket but Mark Ponticelli made 56 and, with support from Doud Hughes, with 31, and 30 from Gary Hall, they finished with 157 all out in 47 overs.

Vickerstown skipper Gareth Benson took 3 for 34 in 14 overs.

After tea, the Walney side made an excellent start, with opener Craig Daly hitting 72, with 14 fours, off 79 deliveries. There was support from Litherland, 43, and Janes, 27, and the win came in the 33rd over at 159 for 4.

There was a high-scoring match at Ulverston Road, where Dalton A hosted Egremont.

In first, Egremont were indebted to opener Dom Chambers, who was unbeaten on 104, containing four sixes and nine fours, and Jon-Paul Dixon, with 45, as they totalled 224 for 7 in their 50 overs.

In reply, Dalton also batted well to fall just short of a win at 204 for 8, mainly due to Mike Walker's 71. For Egremont, Steve Holliday returned 4 for 43

Lindal Moor A made 159 all out against Furness A at Furness Park. In reply, Furness only needed 19.4 overs to go to 161 for the loss of only one wicket, K McLean making 81.

Cockermouth A won the toss at home to Hawcoat Park and decided to bat.

They will have been fairly happy to be 186 all out in the 46th over. Andrew Dodds and Nick Mandale, with 47 and 46 respectively, were top-scorers. Callum Muncaster, with 3 for 57, and Cameron McDougall, 3 for 40, were Hawcoat’s leading wicket-takers.

In reply, Hawcoat Park gave a good chase for the runs but, with Matthew Hodgson taking 6 for 38, were all out for 159 in 45 overs. Callum Lucas, with 32, top-scored.

Gary Collins, Daryl Wearing and Javed Khan each took three wickets as Barrow defeated Kendal in the Northern League Division One.

The trio helped dismiss their hosts for just 99 in 48 overs, before Barrow reached 105 for 5 in 20 overs to take the win. Sam Dutton hit 34 and Michael Wellings 31 not out - including a six off the last ball.

Kendal A defeated Barrow A by one wicket in a low-scoring Division Two match at Ernest Pass.

The hosts were all out for 92, Guy Heffernan hitting 26 and Ciaran Dawes 25, and Kendal reached their target after a real battle, Sam Henderson and Paul Riley each taking three wickets.
