FURNESS'S quest to upset North Lancs and Cumbria Premier Division leaders Workington at Oxford Street, came unstuck after a below-par batting performance.

The hosts were dismissed for 155, having lost opener Mike Gadsden for a duck with the score on just two and not being able to build from there.

Garry Thompson top-scored with 45 at number seven, having come in with the score on 59 for 5 and was supported by 28 from Bradley Chapples.

Workington's Andrew Ireland, Matthew Lowden, Kaushalya Gajasinghe and Simon James all took two wickets.

The visitors' reply started poorly, with openers Kristian Moffatt and Robbie Lambert both dismissed without scoring, but 69 from Gajasinghe and 51 from Collum Moffatt pushed them to the win at 157 for 5 after 35.5 overs.

Dalton continued their impressive return to the top-flight with victory at Cleator.

They batted first and put 244 for 9 on the board. Jack Singleton top-scored with 85 and Tom Heywood made 50.

Cleator could only reply with 174 all out, despite Chris Quin making 81. Dalton's Jon Bell took 4 for 52.

Wigton made a massive 320 for 5 against visitors Whitehaven, skipper Mike Holliday scoring 135, Angus Harman 120 and Nico Watt 43. Habib Baloch took 4 for 81 in 15 overs.

In reply, Whitehaven were all out in the 35th over for 157, David Watson top-scoring with 41.

Glen Liddle, with 3 for 36, and Mikey Hill, 3 for 1 in 10 deliveries, saw Wigton to an excellent win.

Keswick had first knock against Cockermouth at Fitz Park and totalled 205 for 8 in their 50 overs.

A valuable unbroken ninth-wicket stand between Joppy Hodgson, 39 not out, and James McGown, 26 not out, pushed them past 200, a very defendable total. Cockermouth pro Chris Hodgson took 3 for 52 in 15 overs.

Cockermouth produced another disappointing batting display to be all out for 155 in the 44th over. Theo Valeri hit 33 and was the main contributor, along with 33 extra. Geeth Kumara, with 4 for 31, Dan Gaskell, 3 for 26, and Greg Cameron, 3 for 47, kept Keswick in control.

Division One leaders Haverigg batted first at Kirkby and were all out in the 45th over for 225. Jordan Postlethwaite made 65, Drew Postlethwaite 42 and professional Dalton Polius 35.

In reply, Kirkby were all out for 159 as Dale Graham took 3 for 37 and Steve Evans 3 for 58.

There were a lot of runs at Ulverston, where visitors Carlisle ran up 300 for 7. James Dawson was unbeaten on 107 and Alex Raybould made 66.

Ulverston made a good effort chasing the big total but were 241 all out in the last over. Alasdair Grunshaw made 63 and Stuart Cooper 45. Carlisle's Philip Frazer returned 5 for 43.

Seascale chose to bat first at Millom and made 176 for 7 in 50 overs, not showing enough effort to increase the run rate, except for Adam Brown, run out after making 46 with two fours and five sixes. Millom's Jack Thompson jnr. took 3 for 49.

In reply, Millom cantered to a good win, making 181 for 4 in only 27.3 overs. Opener Danny Fallows made 52, hitting eight fours and two sixes, and Ian Swarbrick scored 53 not out, including six fours and three sixes.

Lindal Moor took victory at Workington A after their top-order started well. Edward Waind again led the way with 69, supported by Sam Beckman's 44 and Mark Daly's 42 as the visitors went to tea at 237 for 9. Adam Chambers took 4 for 65 in 15 overs.

Workington began their reply steadily, with opener Andrew Reed making 41 and Grant Reid 23, but could only total 134 in 49.2 overs. John Atkinson again bowled a good spell, taking 3 for 39 in his 15 overs.

In Division Two, Lindal A had first knock against Hawcoat Park and totalled 327 for 2 wickets. Lee Stephens, with 114 not out and Paul Clarke, with 109, gave their opponents hard afternoon.

In reply the visitors also batted well before being all out for 188.

Dalton A made a goodish start against Cleator A, but the last seven batsmen could only make 14 runs, and the home side were 146 all out. Phil Humphries made 57 and Ross Peoples 41.

Cleator's Tom Green returned 7 for 53 in 13.1 overs. After tea, Cleator were never in trouble and won in the 36th over at 151 for 3. Openers Gary Hall and Steven Lee, with 48 and 45 respectively, gave their side a good start.

In first Cockermouth A made 180 for 2 against Egremont, who in reply made a valiant effort but fell 10 runs short at 170 all out

Vickerstown maintained their winning run despite being put into bat by Furness and struggling, being 30 for 4 at one time. John Burns helped a slight recovery, making 43, and the Walney side were 129 all out in 42 overs.

After tea, Furness started well and were 40 for 1, but fell away to be all out for 107 in 44 overs. Vickerstown skipper, Gareth Benson took 5 for 36 in 14.3 overs.

In the Northern League Division One, Kaustubh Pawar hit 125 for Barrow as they claimed a winning draw at Morecambe.

The visitors batted first and totalled 268 all out from their 50 overs, with Sam Dutton making 30.

The Morecambe reply reached 225 for 8 when overs ran out, with Daryn Smit making 115 and Greg Reynolds returning figures of 3 for 53.

In Division Two, Barrow A were edged out by Morecambe A at Ernest Pass. The hosts batted first and made 219 for 5, with Matthew Wall hitting 52, Guy Heffernan 51 and Patrick Allington 47.

Morecambe reached 220 for 9 to take the win, despite 4 for 45 from Paul Riley.
