KENROY Peters rewrote the North Lancs and Cumbria League records books with a stunning display of batting at Pennington Lane.

The Lindal Moor professional demolished the bowling attack of his former club Vickerstown, as he helped Moor set a new record for the highest total in the league’s history.

His 233 off 112 balls – including 29 fours and 10 sixes, and itself a North Lancs milestone – helped Lindal reach a total of 426 for 6 off their 50 overs, beating the previous league record of 414 for 7, set by Millom in the 1923 Higson Cup.

Peters’ score was the best in any league competition since its formation in 1920, bettering the 215 scored by Workington’s Simon Beare in the 2005 Higson Cup final.

The West Indian was well-supported during his knock by captain Ed Waind. The pair came together at 57 for 2 and were only parted with the score on 382, when Waind was out for 116, off 110 balls, with 18 fours and two sixes.

The partnership of 355 was a new club record for Lindal, topping the 225 scored by Colin Knight and John Parkinson against Workington in 1999.

After seeing their bowlers punished, Vickerstown’s batsmen were unable to respond, as they were all out for 122. Craig Crawford took 6 for 41 in his 15 overs.

Elsewhere in Division One, Haverigg edged past Seascale at Poolside.

Batting first, the home side’s top and middle-orders batted well to be 258 for 5 in their 50 overs.

Skipper Drew Postlethwaite top-scored with 61, including, 11 fours, and was well-supported by Joseph Lovell (60 not out), Jordan Postlethwaite, (50) and professional Dalton Polius (40).

Seascale also liked the batting track, and were 212 for 8 when overs ran out. Joe Hammond made 82, Jack Stubbings 33 and Steve Brown 33 not out. Polius took 3 for 70 in his 15 overs.

Whitehaven overcame Ulverston after batting first and seeing their top-order give them a great start. Opener Stephen Holliday made 110, with 19 fours and two sixes, while opening partner Dom Chambers made 37 and professional Mohammad 34, to see the hosts post 255 all out in the 48th over. Stuart Cooper had a great bowling spell, taking five for 49 in his 15 overs.

Ulverston started steadily, with their top-four batsmen totalling 96 between them, Cooper top-scoring with 46. But the rest of the batting was disappointing and they were all out for 122 in the 36th over.

Habib Baloch, with 4 for 51, and Holliday, 3 for 36, bowled well for Whitehaven.

Millom disposed of Workington A in easy fashion, as they batted first and saw new pro Sameera Sadamal make 142, with 15 fours and two sixes, supported by 52 not out from Dave Mackie, who struck three fours and a six. The visitors were 243 for 5 when overs ran out.

With the bat, only Workington skipper Liam Hazzard, with 49, gave Millom problems as the home team slumped to 125 all out in the 44th over. Billy Thompson returned figures of 4 for 36.

In the Premier Division, the Furness attack was in top form to have hosts Wigton all out for 83, with Kiwi pro Seth Rance taking six for 22. Furness went to a quick win, making 87 for 3 in the 21st over .

Dalton lost early wickets at home to Keswick, and only skipper Dan Sharp, with 39, gave them something to defend with an all out total 143. Keswick bowling 17 wides helped the total.

The hosts made a steady start, and 37 not out from professional Geeth Kumara and Joppy Hodgson’s 35 saw them to 146 for 7 in the 46th over. Jon Bell took 3 for 33 in 11 overs.

Champions Workington batted first at Cockermouth and were 261 for 8 in their 50 overs. Robbie Lambert, with 64, and pro Gaja Singhe, with 60, were the main contributors. Cockermouth’s Johnny Norman took 4 for 55.

The Cockermouth batting was again poor and they were all out in 22 overs for 54.

Carlisle had first knock at home to Cleator and, mainly due to professional Justin Greaves’ 81, were all out in the 50th over for 222.

Cleator also enjoyed the good batting track, but despite 75 from Chris Quin, were bowled out for 194 in the 49th over. Carlisle’s Phil Frazer took 4 for 57.

In Division Two, there was a low-scoring game at Cleator A, where visitors Kirkby put the home side in to bat. After Alastair Bradley removed both openers, the Etchells brothers, Mark with 5 for 22, and Mike with 3 for 20, bowled Cleator out for 59 in the 29th over.

Kirkby lost early wickets as well, but skipper and opener Paul Fugler, with an unbeaten 34, saw his side home at 63 for 4 in the 18th over.

Windscale openers Matt Crowther, 29, and Marc Forrest, 24, gave their side a steady start at home to Dalton A, but the remaining batting was disappointing and they were all out for 142 in 35 overs. Dalton’s Jack Flynn, with 4 for 78, and Matthew Holmes, 3 for 48, were the main wicket-takers, each bowling 15 overs.

Dalton’s batting, except for Ross Peoples with 46 and skipper Jacob Rigg, 29, failed badly as they were 127 all out in the 31st over. Stewart Todhunter, 4 for 8, and Tom Crowther, 4 for 29, gave Windscale a welcome win.

Cockermouth A were put in at Egremont and found runs hard to come by. A knock of 25 from skipper Jack Edmondson and 23 from Stephen Chambers saw them to 110 all out in 42.2 overs. Jon-Paul Dixon took 3 for 33 in eight overs.

Egremont also struggled for runs and were all out for 92 in the 32nd over. Andrew Dodds, with 6 for 28 in his 15 overs, did the damage.

In Division Three, Millom A made a positive start at home to Egremont A, but then lost four quick wickets. This brought Adam Smith to the crease, and with 10 fours and one six, he made a vital 62. Helped by opener Liam Brockbank’s 47, Millom were 155 for 9 when the overs ran out. Egremont’s James Bostock took 6 for 40 in his 10 overs.

Egremont openers Owen Thompson, 35, and Matthew Hunter, 28, gave their side a good start, and with Ian Littleton’s 35 not out and Lewis Gribbin’s 28, they won in the 34th over at 156 for 6. David Singleton took 4 for 21 in 10 overs, an excellent spell.

Ulverston A lost three early wickets at home to Whitehaven A, but 49 from Lindsay Slee, 36 from Saqib Ghumman, and 26 from William Guy, saw them to 142 all out in the 35th over. Clark Pattinson, 3 for 18, and Mike Baker, 3 for 41, were the top wicket-takers. Whitehaven made a steady start, but fell away to be 60 for 7. Then, a last-wicket stand by Andrew Mason, 44 not out, and Matt Harrison, 17 not out, saw them to a one-wicket win at 144 for 9 in the 39th over. Ghumman took 3 for 27 in his 10 overs.

l Barrow are still to record a victory in the Northern League Division One as they fell to a five-wicket home defeat against Lancaster.

Batting first, Barrow openers Dean Williams (28) and skipper Toby Mowat (33) made a strong start, but their demise signalled a collapse, and Barrow were thankful to number nine Daryl Wearing for an excellent, defiant 57, to help them reach 166 all out.

Lancaster lost five wickets in reaching a winning total of 168 inside 43 overs. Gary Collins and Ryan Gilmour took two wickets apiece. Barrow A also lost their Division Two match at Lancaster.
