GREG Reynolds was the hero with the ball as Barrow beat Garstang in a closey-fought affair.

Reynolds took 6 for 37 in 13 overs to lead the home side to a 17-run victory in their Northern League Division One encounter at a sun-baked Ernest Pass on Saturday.

Chasing a modest total of 126 for victory, the Lancashire side found Reynolds too hot to handle as he ripped through the heart of the Garstang batting line-up, and they were all out for 108 in the 36th over.

While Reynolds did most of the damage, Daryl Wearing and Ryan Gilmour also contributed.

Wearing took 2 for 17 in a very tidy ten-over spell and Gilmour got the important wicket of opener Michael Walling, lbw for a top-score 43.

Earlier the Barrow batsmen had also found it hard to score runs as they struggled to 125 for 8 in their 50 overs. Professional Grant Roelofsen top scored with 27 and Jack Hill-Eades hit a very useful 22 at number eight.

Reynolds, with 17, opener Robin Adams (12) and skipper Glen Kermode (10) were the only other Barrow batsmen to reach double figures.

But in the end the bowling department did the job, with the victory lifting Barrow to eighth place in the Division One table.
