THE father-and-son duo of Lee and Brad Stephens starred as Lindal Moor A lifted the Vigodny Cup with a 73-run victory over Egremont A.

Lee led the way for Lindal with the bat, top-scoring with a half-century, while teenager Brad was named man-of-the-match after taking 4 for 9 as Egremont were shot out for 96 chasing 170 to win.

Lindal skipper Chris Moore was delighted with the second-innings display from his team, after initially feeling they had not put enough runs on the board.

"Egremont had a strong side out, so we thought at the interval that we were 20 or 30 runs short of the total we wanted," said Moore.

"We spoke in the dressing room that we needed to get some early wickets to put them under pressure.

"Thankfully that's what happened, and the first 20-odd overs were without doubt the best we've bowled and fielded all season."

Moore opted to bat first at Kirkby after winning the toss, with openers Kanha Kukreti (21) and Chris Scrogham (25) getting them off to a steady start, before both were bowled by Carl Jackson.

Brad Stephens then departed for just six, but dad Lee steadied the ship and reached 58 before he was bowled by Coady Scott.

Egremont's Mark Finlinson then got stuck into Lindal's lower-order, finishing with 3 for 33 to bowl Moor out for 169 in 44.4 overs, while Jackson and Scott finished with two wickets apiece.

The reply barely got going for Egremont though, as 14-year-old all-rounder Stephens shone with with the ball, removing Scott, Lee Cruden and Matthew Hunter for single-figure scores.

Moore also accounted for opener Ellis Gribbin without him troubling the scorers, with Kukreti and Tom Gregg claiming two scalps each as Egremont collapsed.

Megan Smith and star man Stephens accounted for the tail to wrap up a comfortable win for Lindal, who now have their sights set on clinching the North Lancs and Cumbria League Division Three title.
