DALTON CC have enjoyed some memorable days down the years, and another special chapter in the club's 124-year history will be written today.

The famous Lashings All-Stars X1 will grace Ulverston Road this afternoon for a special one-off Twenty-20 match against the North Lancs and Cumbria League side.

Cricket fans flocking to Ulverston Road will get the chance to see many former internationals and current First Class players in action.

And the Dalton players can look forward to putting a season of struggle in the Premier Division to one side and taking on the might of Monty Panesar and Abdul Razzaq.

Panesar is probably the best known name in the visiting team, the mercurial left-arm spinner having become a firm favourite with cricket fans the world over during his England Test days.

Several other former England players will grace the Lashings line-up including Lancashire quartet Warren Hegg, captain Chris Schofield, Simon Kerrigan and Stephen Parry, as well as pace trio Jake Dernbach, Ajmal Shahzad and Martin Bicknell.

Giving the Lashings team an international flavour are Pakistani all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, Indian opening bat Wasim Jaffer and New Zealand's Geroge Worker and Zimbabwean Cephas Zhuwao.

“It's going to be a great experience,” said Dalton batsman Jack Singleton.

“We are going to be playing against Dernbach and Shazad who can both bowl quick and Abdul Razzaq who was still playing for Pakistan a few years ago.

“It should be a good day, it's looking good weather-wise. Hopefully it will get well supported by the Furness area. It's not often we get this kind of thing happening around here.”

Adding to the is the presence of legendary BBC Radio Test Match Special commentator Henry 'Blowers' Blofeld who will be commentating from pitchside. There will also be barbecue food available courtesy of Browns Quality Meats and the bar will be open all day.

The fun with a junior coaching clinic in the morning, including a session led by the Lashings All Stars, and followed by the T20 clash in the afternoon.

“We've been pretty busy, but the marquee is up and it's coming along very nicely at the minute,” said Singleton.

“You can pay on the door so hopefully a lot of people will turn up.”

Gates open for the T20 match at 2pm, with general entry £10.

Back in the real world of the North Lancs League, Dalton's slim hopes of taking their battle to avoid bottom spot in the Premier Division into the final week of the season, depend on them picking up some big points at second-placed Furness tomorrow and hoping champions-elect Workington beat Keswick.

Not for the first time Furness' hopes of catching Workington were hit by the weather last week. And with the West Cumbrians having a 14-point lead, it now looks unlikely the clash between the two sides at the Ernest Valentine Memorial Ground next week will be the dramatic final-day title decider onlookers had hoped it would be.

The title race is very much still alive in Division One, where Haverigg can overtake their neighbours Millom and at the same time exact quick revenge for their Sowerby Cup final defeat at the same time when the old rivals clash at St George's Road.

Millom are top and Haverigg are third with Whitehaven sandwiched between them ahead of their home game against Workington seconds.
