HAVERIGG’S good start to the season owes much to the expertise of their new West Indian professional Dalton Polius.

The Caribbean class act has hit two centuries already – an unbeaten 106 against Workington seconds followed by 119 not out at Seascale last Saturday helping his side top the North Lancs League Division One table.

Both those innings contributed to victories, so tomorrow’s opponents Carlisle could be in trouble if the 25-year-old from St Lucia raises his bat in the air at Poolside after notching another three-figure total.

Haverigg’s decent opening has certainly not be a one-man show however.

Dale Graham shone with both bat and ball at Seascale, taking five for 43 and scoring 56 as part of a match-winning partnership with the pro.

Polius, Graham and the rest of the Haverigg batting line-up will have to be on their guard against Carlisle’s Alex Raybould however, after he became the first bowler from the county capital side to take all ten wickets in a match.

Raybould grabbed ten for 54 in Carlisle’s 136-run win over Workington A at Edenside and he will be brimming with confidence.

Haverigg will look to avenge their narrow league defeat to Lindal Moor on Sunday when the two sides meet at Poolside in the Sowerby Cup.

Haverigg’s neighbours Millom will travel around Duddon Estuary tomorrow, hoping to continue the good form which saw them see off Lindal last weekend as they take on a Kirkby outfit struggling for numbers due to the season overlap with football.

Mike Fugler’s side could only muster eight players in their defeat at Ulverston last weekend with some players still involved in Kirkby’s United’s bid for the Furness Premier League crown.

Millom will make for difficult opponents, showing their strength with a three-wicket win over previously unbeaten Lindal.

The two sides do it all again at the Community Centre 24 hours later as the Sowerby Cup trail begins.

Back to league action and Paul Wilcock’s Moor will aim to get back to winning ways at home to Seascale, while Ulverston head north to Workington before hosting Seascale in the Sowerby Cup.

It was mixed fortunes for Scott Pearcey’s Furness last week – a five-wicket Premier Division win over Keswick followed by a shock Higson Cup exit at Wigton.

Furness have the opportunity to gain quick revenge on the north Cumbrians as they head to the same venue for a Premier Division clash.

Still finding their feet in the Premier Division, Dalton battled hard in losing to leaders Cockermouth and will hope for a better outcome at Whitehaven.

Gareth Benson, whose seven-wicket haul led Vickerstown to victory over Hawcoat Park in Division Two, will aim to do a similar job on Lindal seconds in a battle of the division’s top two teams.

Barrow can continue their rise up the Northern League Division One standings by winning at Leyland.

Toby Mowat’s men will travel with their tails up, fresh from a comprehensive 93-run victory over Lancaster at Ernest Pass when Indian pro Kaustubh Pawar hit a superb 125.
