BEN Stokes will not be considered for England selection until further notice after another sensational week in the career of the Cumbrian cricketer.

All-rounder Stokes has been at the centre of the sporting world during another dramatic week in which he missed England's fourth One-Day International match against West Indies after being arrested this week in Bristol.

On Wednesday, the 26-year-old was still selected in England's 16-man Ashes squad, set to tour Australia this winter.

But doubts remain about when the Cumbrian will next be involved for England with the Durham man understood to have injured his hand in the incident on Monday. And the Cumbrian, alongside Alex Hales who was also involved, has been suspended from England duty.

Michael Vaughan, meanwhile, thinks Stokes has "got to be more streetwise" because "he is not the Ben Stokes of five or 10 years ago, living up in Cockermouth".

Vaughan said: "This has to be the wake-up call.

"There's been whispers and rumours. You go back a few years, he was sent back from a Lions trip for bad behaviour, for going out too late. He punched a locker in the West Indies and broke his hand.

"So, he's that kind of character. And what we don't want is to do is take away that fire we see on the pitch.

"He's such a wonderful cricketer. A cricketer that will win England games, I hope, for many, many more years."

"But he's very streetwise on the pitch," Vaughan added to BBC Radio 5 Live. "He's very, very cool. He's very, very committed to playing the game.

"He's got to be more streetwise away from playing days now because he's not Ben Stokes of five or 10 years ago, living up in Cockermouth in the North-East [where he played for Durham], where no-one really knew who he was."

Stokes went to Cockermouth Cricket Club, his former club, last month for a PCA Masters event after a superb start to the year on the pitch. But it's now his off-the-field actions that are taking centre stage.

Vaughan added: "Now, he's a global cricketing superstar. He gets £1.7m to play in the IPL [Indian Premier League].

"People who he know he is. You only have to look at what we know about the situation. He was out until 2.30 in the morning on Monday - two days away from an international. He's hit someone. He got arrested.

"And he is the England vice-captain. That, for me, is not streetwise at all. So, he has to look himself in the mirror."
