BARROW CC product Liam Livingstone is making his First Class debut for Lancashire in their County Championship Division One opener against Nottinghamshire.

Big-hitting Livingstone has been a regular in the Red Rose county’s T20 side and helped the Lightning end their 16-year wait for limited-overs silverware last season when they claimed the NatWest T20 Blast title.

The 22-year-old’s performances with the bat also earned him a new contract at Old Trafford last summer, and now he has been rewarded with a first taste of County Championship cricket in the four-day game at Old Trafford.

He will hope for more success at the crease in 2016 after some explosive innings last year. These included a match-winning 91 on his Royal London One-Day Cup debut against Kent at Canterbury and a world record innings in club cricket, when he scored 350 from 138 balls while playing for Nantwich.

The start of Livingstone’s former club Barrow’s Northern League season has been put on hold until this weekend.

The Ernest Pass side were due to travel to Blackpool yesterday for the first match of the season, with the seconds hosting Blackpool A.

However, the Northern League executive decided to postpone all matches across the two divisions as many clubs are still battling to have pitches ready following the exceptionally wet winter and spring.

Barrow’s season will now start at home to Fleetwood this weekend.
