LIAM Livingstone will captain Lancashire at Old Trafford for the first time when the Red Rose county take on Somerset in the County Championship.

The Barrow ace led the team in their draw against Surrey at the Oval last week, but this will be his first outing as skipper on home turf.

Livingstone is continuing to stand in for Steven Croft, who has been sidelined with a thumb injury.

The 23-year-old will have England pace bowler James Anderson back in the squad after he was rested by the ECB for the Surrey match.

He scored his maiden first-class century against Somerset last year, making 108 not out at Taunton in what was only his second first-class game.

It was the start of a memorable year for Livingstone, who went on to finish the County Championship season with 815 runs at an average of 50.95 – including two centuries and six 50s.

His batting displays earned him a call-up for the England Lions squad in Sri Lanka, where he scored tons in both innings of the second unofficial Test with Sri Lanka A – only the second Englishman to achieve that feat, after Kevin Pietersen.
