BARROW suffered double defeat at the hands of St Annes in the Northern League.

The Ernest Pass first and seconds were both defeated in what is proving to be a challenging period for the club.

After winning the toss at Vernon Road, St Annes first team put Barrow into bat in their Division One match.

The visitors got off to a decent start with openers Dean Williams (27) and captain Toby Mowat (24) both getting good starts before falling victim to Matthew Grindley.

Batting at number three, Greg Reynolds top scored for Barrow with 37, but he was lacking in support from the middle order with Aussie pro Aaron Keverne-Onyon, Glen Kermode and Daryl Wearing all falling victim to Grindley without troubling the scorers.

Only Jamie Pinfold, with 24, and last man Gary Collins (16) offered any resistance as Barrow were dismissed for 162 in the 44th over.

Grindley was their tormentor in chief with 6 for 37 with Mitchell Bolus chipping in with 3 for 48.

In reply St Annes raced to a five-wicket win at 165 for 5 inside 33 overs with opener Gurman Bains scoring 56. After losing a couple of cheap wickets it was left to Tom Higson (31 not out and Richard Staines (27 not out) to finish the job.

Wearing took 2 for 34 and Collins 2 for 25.

Barrow seconds lost by four wickets at home to St Annes A in a low-scoring match at Ernest Pass.

Batting first, Barrow were skittled for 118 with only opener Peter Deeks (35) and Guy Heffernan (26) getting a decent total on the board.

And despite three wickets for Sam Henderson, the Lancashire side reached a winning total of 119 for 6 in the 29th over.
