Dhawan stars with bat and ball as Furness thrash Haverigg

The Indian professional smashed a brilliant 160 as the home side piled on 313 for 8 in Saturday's North Lancs and Cumbria League Premier Division clash.

And Dhawan then completed a fine day's work at Furness Park as he grabbed five wickets as the villagers were rolled over for 56.

The game had started well for Haverigg as Furness struggled to 29 for 2 before Mike Gadsden and Dhawan came together at the crease. The pair put on 66 before Gadsden was caught behind for 27.

Dhawan then took control and partnered skipper Scott Pearcey, 35, in a stand of 95. The pro was next to go, after making 160, and after 50 overs the home team were 313 for 8.

Robbie Evans bowled his 15 overs to take 5 for 106. Unfortunately for Haverigg, their pro Roy Kaia was injured after bowling nine overs for just 10 runs and took no further part in the game.

Haverigg's batting gave the Furness attack few problems. Glenn Chesher, with 20, was the only one to make double figures, and the villagers were 56 for 9 in the 22nd over.

Dhawan took his 5 for 32 in 11 overs and Peter Lawson 4 for 19 in 10.3 overs.

Dalton had a good win at home to Millom. The home side had first use of the pitch and mainly due to Danny Sharpe's 66, were all out for 183 in the 42nd over.

Moor's batting fell well short of its usual standards and they were all out in the 34th over for 119.

Dalton professional Shingi Masakadza returned 6 for 35. A weakened Cleator side had first knock at home to Millom and were grateful for the 48 made by Chris Quin as they were all out for 141. Millom's Billy Thompson took 4 for 39.

In reply Millom had a bad day with the bat to be all out for 73, of which Graham Dawson made 27 not out.

Cleator veteran Dave Rooney returned 8 for 28 in 14.4 overs so Cleator retain their unbeaten record in the league.

In first at Cockermouth, Keswick were soon 26 for 3 and when professional Geeth Kumara went for 15 at 62 for 4, it took the middle order to start a recovery. Scott McGown with 35 and Stephen Benson, 32, made the scoreboard look better for the visitors, but they were all out in the 39th over for 134.

Cockermouth's Chris Hodgson took 4 for 44 in 13 overs, and Sam Thompson 3 for 17 in six overs. Thompson's three victims were the Keswick first three in their order.

After tea, Cockermouth made a moderate start being 26 for 2. Gareth White and Matthew Sempill got their side back on track, until Sempill went for 24, followed by pro Haseeb Azam for 4.

Skipper White was still there however, and with 21 from Marcus Stables and 11 not out from Chris Hodgson, Cockermouth went to the win in 38 overs at 136 for 5.

White remained unbeaten on 46. Whitehaven batted first at Carlisle, and with Chase Young available, they made a good start. When Young and Dom Chambers were at the crease together, the visitors were threatening a big score.

However, when Chambers was out for 29, and Young for 81, the last eight in the order only managed 40 more runs and the side were 157 all out in the 47th over.

Carlisle's Fraser Conn took 3 for 22 in 11.3 overs. In reply, Carlisle openers, Tom Benn with 100, and Ben Davidson, 45, both unbeaten, put on 158 to win in the 33rd over.

Put into bat at home to Workington, Wigton had a good afternoon against a weakened Workington attack. Wigton skipper Nico Watt followed last week's century with 63.

Mike Slack, professional Theo Manihera, and Mikey Hill all got into the thirties, and after 50 overs, the home side were 246 for 9. Workington's Kristian Moffat took 6 for 88 in 15 overs.

Workington made a disastrous start to their innings, with the top three all out for 14 between them.

Kaushalya Gajasinghe and Jake Daniel, with 56 and 36 respectively, rallied their side, but there was little help from the tail, and the 2017 champions were all out for 164 in the 43rd over. Mike Slack took 3 for 29 in eight overs.

Choosing to bat in their first division match at home to Kirkby, Workington seconds did not have a good day, being all out in the 40th over for 123. Daniel Rice, 57, and Rob Scott, 27, scored more than half the total. Kirkby's Alistair Bradley took 3 for 19 in eight overs and the consistent Mark Etchells, 3 for 40 in 14 overs.

In reply Kirkby made a careful reply and won in the 33rd over, scoring 125 for 6. Matthew Bruce, with 39, and Paul Fugler, 25, were the top run makers. In first at home to Cockermouth A, Egremont, despite 72 from Shaun Bostock, and 37 from Mark Ponticelli, could only total 162 all out in 44 overs. Cockermouth's Aidan Little returned 5 for 27 in 10 overs, and Andrew Dodds, with 4 for 35 in 12 overs, bowled well.

Cockermouth would be disappointed with their innings as they were all out in the 40th over for 126, of which, Liam Jackson scored 46. Consistent Egremont bowler, Coady Scott, took 4 for 34 in 10.3 overs, and Mark Ponticelli sealed a good all-round performance, taking 3 for 41 in his 15 overs.

There were lots of runs again at Seascale, where Furness had first knock and with Joe Amison's 67, and Luke Shaw's 53, they were all out in the 49th over for 226. Seascale's Adam Brown in his 15 overs took 4 for 61. After tea Seascale lost an early wicket but then dominated proceedings. Adam Brown topped off a good day with an unbeaten 66. Andrew Knott made 52, Robin Sparshott, 49 not out, and Joe Hammond, 43, to see Seascale to 227 for 3 in the 33rd over, and 10 much-needed points. Barrow chose to bat at Ulverston, but a remarkable bowling spell by Ulverston's Gareth Yates gave them problems. Yates took five wickets for just eight runs In 15 overs with 13 maidens and the visitors were restricted to 130 for 8 in their 50 overs.

Ulverston went to a comfortable win in the 29th over making 133 for 2, with Ben Dryden unbeaten on 62.

Hawcoat Park had first knock at Vickerstown and had a poor afternoon being dismissed for 85. The decision to bring on Craig Daly as first-change was inspired as he took 6 for 25 in 10.5 overs, with skipper Gareth Benson taking 3 for 18 in 10 overs.

Another inspired decision was to open the batting with bowler George Scott, who went on to make 34 with one six and five fours, supported by Craig Daly's 22 not out as the Walneyites won in the 21st over at 91 for 5, Benson hitting a six to close proceedings.

* Robin Adams had a great day at the crease for Barrow as they earned at comfortable Northern League win over Morecambe.

Opening bat Adams hit 74 from 103 balls and shared in a 72-run opening partnership with Toby Mowat (47) as the visitors rattled up 220 for 9 in 40 overs at Woodhill Lane.

The Barrow attack showed no mercy in reply with left-arm spinner Gary Collins taking 4 for 14, Daryl Wearing 2 for 11 and Sam Henderson 2 for 6 as Morecambe were dismissed for just 61.
