ROUND six of an enthralling BIG Smash League bowls competition takes place at Dalton Cricket Club tonight (6pm start).

Spectators can look forward to some gripping play unfold, with the order of play as follows.

Simon Perry v Liam Howard; Barry Lowden v Danny Rogers; Andy Thornton v Gareth Jones; Stew Turnbull v Roy Moxham; Simon Perry v Gareth Jones.

Round five action saw some exciting and tense matches take place, with Liam Howard beating Stew Turnbull 20-13 in the opening match, earning him four points.

Next came a clash of two real big guns in Barry Lowden and Roy Moxham, and the match lived up to its billing.

The scores were locked at 13-13 with five ends to play.

Lowden won three of the next four ends to lead 17-15, but Moxham bowled two superb woods to claim another maximum and win the match 19-17. Next up was another huge match-up, involving Simon Perry and Danny Rogers.

It was another closely-fought encounter, with Perry bowling fantastically on the final three ends to claim a 19-12 victory.

With top spot in the league already having changed hands twice over the course of the night, a place at the summit was up for grabs as Andy Thornton took on Liam Howard.

It was nip-and-tuck throughout, with Thornton edging home 15-14 to regain the lead in this popular competition.
