ALL-CONQUERING Red River continue to lead the way in Ulverston and District Bowling League Division Two.

West Shore and Lindal Moor A became the latest victims crushed by the juggernaught in the Alan Myerscough-sponsored competition.

Gary Mills was the best of the double winners for the River, including an impressive 21-1 victory.

For Lindal Moor A, Harry Preston gained his first competitive victory just a couple of weeks after his brother achieved the same feat.

Askam A were the only other team to win both matches, in doing so getting off the mark for the season.

Colin Howarth had two great single figure successes against Kings Head and Roose A.

For Kings Head, Bob Smith saved the whitewash, while Eddie O’Hare and Jimmy Johnson shone for Roose.

Red River’s closest challengers continue to be Ulverston Cons after they beat West Mount 11-3.

Dave Nicholson continued his fine form, supported by Jeff Benson. Ian Littlewood replied well for the Mounties.

The performance of the week came from Co-op A, who won 11-4 on their travels to Walney Park and had six single-figure wins in the process. The best of them came from Jack Huitson, 21-4.

Division One has surprise leaders in the shape of Glaxo.

They took over from Hawcoat Park after wins at Barrow Island and at home to Roose, dropping just six points in the process.

Last year’s merit winner, Simon Brown, has hit the ground running for his new club, with two good wins against strong opponents seeing him unbeaten so far.

Barrow Island, by contrast, are struggling back in the top division and are beginning to lose touch with those above them at the foot of the table. Hawcoat Park remain the only other team with a 100 per cent record after victories over Post Office and Lindal Moor. Alan Fay was the pick of the double winners.

Lindal Moor’s Ian France finds himself top of the merit tables at this early stage after victories in the matches against Hawcoat and Walney Park. Askam are in great form and followed up a fine away win on a tricky Roose green with an equally impressive triumph at the village green against the Post Office.

Lian Knowles continued his great form in both games, showing up both his older siblings and dad in the process.
