Kirkby make their title intentions clear

IT is getting tight at the top of the Alan Myerscough (Ford)-sponsored Ulverston and District Bowling League Division Two table.

With West Shore having a bye, Kirkby took full advantage as their 13-1 victory at home to Dalton CC A moved them level with the Walney side in the race for promotion.

Mark Fell and Rob Keegan were in scintillating form for the Villagers, while Alan Haines saved the whitewash by winning well for the Cricketers.

Hawcoat Park A kept in touch with the leaders as they defeated Salthouse A 9-5 on their own patch.

Geoff Maudsley had a great single-figure win further down the sheet than he is used to, with Anthony Woods and elder statesmen Eddie France and Roy Twiname playing strong supporting roles.

Salthouse’s top three of Peter Sullivan, Peter Miller and Paul Tomkinson continued their good form, although they were all in the shadow of Ray Smith, as he took his game 21-10.

Roose A are still searching for their first victory and came no closer as they visited West Mount, falling to an 11-3 defeat.

Top man Mike Hodgson was best for the Mounties, his 21-6 score being matched by Ian Littlewood. Craig Butler played a fine supporting role with his own 21-9 victory.

For Roose, Ian Gomersall and Norman Whitehouse took the spoils, along with Mark Tinning, who had a 21-12 success in a rare run-out.

Barrow Island made the trip to Askam A and, in a closely-fought match, shared the games six apiece. However, thanks to great wins by Cyril and Barry Wearing the home side took the aggregate points and the match 8-6. Steve Hunter took the sweep for the Island with a 21-13 victory, while Mick Jones took the spoils 21-14.

The Police hosted Coop A, and with the help of great wins from the Kens – Taylor and Lindow – ran out 10-4 victors.

For the Coop, Trevor White was in unstoppable form as he won 21-3, with Dave Harwood also cruising to a 21-7 success.

The final game saw Glaxo A make the trip to Walney Park A. They will be happy to have taken five points back to Ulverston.

Mike Speight led the way for the works side with a 21-9 victory, while Mike Davey produced a masterclass in his 21-5 triumph for Walney helping them to the 9-5 scoreline.
