HAWCOAT Park had to dig deep to keep up their Furness Senior Citizens Bowling League title push with victory over Salthouse.

The Division One hotshots shared the games with their hosts, but took the aggregate to triumph 7-4, with wins from Wilf Heywood and Jack Curphey proving crucial. Ken Howarth and John Taylor responded for Salthouse.

Leaders West Shore had a comfortable 7-3 home success against Co-op SC to maintain their lead at the top. There were single-figure victories from Geoff Batte and Brian Beard, while Phil Dixon responded in kind for the Co-op.

Lindal proved too strong for bottom club Dalton CC A, with a 9-1 scoreline at Pennington Lane. The visitors' point came from Alan Haines, with John Crompton, Brian Andrews and Chas Crellin all winning to single figures for the Villagers.

Dalton’s first team fared better at home to West Mount, picking up a 7-3 triumph as Kenny Judge, Keith Banks and Derek Buck prevailed. Ken Robinson, Bill Millard and Steve Hocknell all took points for the Mount.

Kirkby closed the gap on Barrow Island following a 7-3 win at the Community Centre. Peter Lee, 21-8, Rod Woodend and Don Marshal led the way, with Barrow Island picking up points from the bottom three games.

Relegation-threatened Glaxo SK came away from Roose losing 8-2, with pressure mounting on their survival prospects. Tony Gorman and Tom Brown, having recently returned to the game whilst for Roose, took Glaxo poiints, with Ronnie Rhodes and Chris Corkill successful for Roose.

The remaining match went to form, with King Alfred picking up a 9-2 win at Hawcoat Park A, for whom Jim Bawden and John Hartley triumphed. Alfred’s Jack Kolbe, 21-9, and Tony George were prominent.

In Division Two, leaders Barrow Island A were held to four games each by lowly West Shore A at Cavendish Park, with the aggregate points going the way of the home side.

Leading the way to the aggregate points were Jack Adams, 21-6, and Kevin Slowey. Fred Myerscough and Sammi Woods responded.

Third played fourth at Dane Avenue, with Co-op SC A hosting North Scale. Again the games were shared, with the Villagers taking the aggregate to win 7-4 and move above their opponents.

There were five chalks separating the side, largely due to Tommy Quayle’s 21-4 success and Glyn Stevens' 21-8 conquest for North Scale. Co-op’s John Proudfoot won 21-8.

The remaining matches both resulted in 7-3 home victories as West Mount A beat Hawcoat Park B and Walney Park A overcame Roose A. Kevin Quinn and William Heaton were among the points for West Mount and Alan McMurray and Jim Wood were to the fore for Walney.

The Billy Hall final, due to take place on Thursday, July 28, between Barrow Island A and Co-op SC A, will be staged at King Alfred and not Barrow Island, as previously stated.
