HAWCOAT Park won the top-of-the-table clash in the Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens Bowling Division One.

They triumphed 8-3 at Co-op SC thanks to a late surge of points.

The first four games were shared, with each side having a single-figure winner – Ian Hall, 21-8, on his return to health for Co-op following his ankle operation, and Wilf Heywood, 21-7, for Hawcoat.

Park took three of the next four, with Paul Cain’s 21-9 score tipping the scales in favour of the visitors.

King Alfred, another side in the title mix, lost 6-4 at newly-promoted Ulverston Cons, with the standout performance Dave Nicholson’s 21-4 success for the hosts.

It was a bad day for Barrow Island, as both their teams lost – the firsts going down 8-3 at home to Dalton CC and the A-team 8-2 at Hawcoat Park A.

The former result was despite Dave Leece’s 21-5 win, with Erroll Wall responding 21-8 for the Cricket Club.

Lindal continued their resurgence with an 8-2 victory against champions West Shore. They hold a game in hand on their rivals, and a win would see the Villagers move third. Unbeaten Martin Lavender and Brian Chelton won for the Shore, as did Ron Barclay and Dave Bennett, 21-8 and 21-7 respectively, for Lindal.

Askam picked up their third success of the season, 6-4 at home to West Mount. There were points for Norman Milburn, 21-7, and Peter Richards, with Ken Baines and Bill Millard responding.

Salthouse are yet to show the home form of last season as they lost 7-4 to North Scale, for whom Ian Dalton, 21-9, was the victor of note.

The remaining match saw Walney Park triumph 6-4 against Roose Community, with Alan McMurray's 21-7 triumph the standout result.

In Division Two, the two Co-op sides won, with the A-team whitewashing West Shore A 10-0 and the B-team beating second-placed Roose 9-2 to allow their club-mates to go top with leaders Kirkby not having a game.

Despite taking five of eight games at Dalton CC A, Salthouse A came up three chalks short of claiming a first win of the season, settling for a draw.

There were mixed fortunes for Walney Park. The B-team lost 9-2 at home to Askam A, but the A-team won 9-2 at West Mount B.

West Mount A had a comfortable 7-3 home victory against Glaxo.
