GLAXO boosted their Furness Senior Citizens’ Bowling League Division One survival hopes with victory against Hawcoat Park A.

It completed a double for the factory side, who had Rod Lewis, 21-3, and Tony Gorman, 21-5, in top form. Frank Ratcliffe and Ray Williams took the points for Hawcoat.

The Park first team proved too strong for Kirkby, winning 9-1, with Andy Waring Kirkby’s saviour in staving off the whitewash.

Leaders West Shore were another side to rack up a double, beating Barrow Island 8-3 at Cavendish Park and then 10-0 in the reverse fixture only days later.

There were single figure victories for Nick Reilly, 21-4, and Peter McDonald, 21-6, while Terry Marshall had a 21-4 triumph for the Island.

Walney Park were 9-1 winners against Roose Community, for whom skipper Chris Corkill took the point. Brian Usher, 21-6, and Matt McKellar, 21-9, were the pick of the crop for Walney.

Askam’s run of poor form continued with an 8-2 loss at Co-op SC, which sees them a mere seven points above the relegation places.

Leading the line for the Co-op were Peter Garner, 21-8, Les Vickers and Dave Irvine. Askam’s scorers were Peter Richards and Norman Milburn.

The remaining match in the division saw West Mount and Salthouse share the games four each at the Mount, but the visitors away with the aggregate points to win 7-4.

West Mount's victors included merit leader Kenny Baines, 21-9, and Johnnie Cross, 21-7, with Stan Edmondson, 21-2, and Peter Millar chipping in for Salthouse.

In Division Two, there were wins for the top four sides in the title chase.

Leaders Barrow Island saw Ulverston Cons draw level at the top.

The Island only won three games at Roose but took the aggregate to claim a 6-5 victory thanks to Kevin Slowey’s single-figure performance.

Ulverston Cons climbed up on the back of an 8-2 home success against Co-op SC B, with John Whiteway and Dennis Rogers gaining single-figure wins, as did the Co-op’s Alec Thompson.

Meanwhile, Co-op A claimed a 9-2 result at West Shore to keep their outside chances alive. In form were Roy Swinglehurst, 21-5, and Don Barrow, with Ron Clements, 21-6, West Shore's stand out man.

The other contenders, North Scale, won 8-2 at home to Ulverston Cons A as Glyn Stevens, Ray Sturgeon and Ernie Fullard shone.

Second-bottom West Mount B picked up a 7-3 success when playing host to King Alfred A, with three single-figure winners. It was a club double, with their A team triumphinh 9-2 at Salthouse A as Ken Horner, 21-3, Neil McKinnon and Peter Crosthwaite all took points.

Askam welcomed back their recent holiday-makers with a 6-4 win against Walney Park A, with Frank Murray, 21-4, and Bill Jinks, 21-9, securing the aggregate points.
