RED River enjoyed double success in Ulverston and District Bowling League Division One.

In a week with two fixtures for most sides, the River defeated Co-op and Lindal in quick succession in the Alan Myerscough (Ford)-sponsored competition.

Having earned promotion last year, Red River have made a solid start t, and after a decent 10-4 win at home against the Co-op they then travelled to Lindal Moor and – in a titanic match – won 9-6, taking the aggregate points by a solitary chalk.

All six victors on the Lindal green also won the previous night, with top man Davey Jones showing he has plenty in his locker with the best displays on both occasions.

The early pacesetters are last year’s champions Hawcoat Park, who followed up a 9-5 home victory over King Alfred with an emphatic 13-2 win against a Co-op team who could be in for a long, hard season.

Barry Christian, Roy Moxham and the Portugese Masters champion Bob Parkinson all had single-figure wins in both games to keep Park on track.

After losing their first two matches, Glaxo showed the form that saw them challenging for much of last season, following up a 9-5 home win against Dalton CC with a 10-5 victory at Roose.

Chris D’Leny, Dave Sankey and Steve Viney all scored double wins in the process.

Ulverston Cons A were the other team to secure back-to-back success, coasting to an 11-3 victory over Post Office, before overcoming a tough Askam team 10-5 on the village green.

Top man Kieran Clark led by example with two great wins, supported by Steve Carruthers, Keith Birkbeck and Steve Nott, who all matched his double triumph.

After a strong showing last year, Salthouse have yet to hit full stride, although they are contesting close games week-in, week-out.

This week’s two matches were no exception, sharing the games 6-6 in each, but losing the aggregate points by six at Walney Park and nine at home to Lindal Moor.

Billy Thompson, John Taylor and John Mason all secured two victories for the Salthouse.

Good wins from Walney's Mike Davey and Paul Hewitson and Moor's Paul Kissock and Chas Crellin were enough to put two more in the loss column for the Raglan Street team.

Dalton CC were another team to lose both games, following up their loss at Glaxo with a 9-6 home defeat to Post Office. Steve Davey and Keith Banks secured two points each for the Cricket, however, Zach Walker and dad Stuart delivered for the Posties.

The remaining fixture saw Askam win 10-4 at home to Walney Park. Askam’s top six all ran out winners to help them on their way, with Graham Rigg and his brother Andy leading the charge.

Lindal Moor A postponed both their games due to lack of players – hopefully a minor blip for one of the more active teams in trying to bring youth players through the ranks over the last couple of seasons.
