RELEGATION-BATTLING Dalton Cricket Club pulled off a Furness and District Bowling League shock by beating leaders Lindal.

The Cricketers were 9-5 victors in the Sharples Lettings Division One encounter, but still remain in the drop zone.

Simon Perry, 21-4, and Ian France, 21-6, had big wins for the Villagers, but Lindal lost the aggregate by 15 chalks as Danny Smith replied with a 21-6 scoreline.

Following a 10-4 victory against Co-op SC, King Alfred took over at the top.

In form for Alfred were Martin Barrow, 21-2, Garry Hall, 21-7, Paul Bennett and Barry Lowden, both 21-8. Lowden's makes him the division's merit leader.

Rolling back the years, Derek Southward, 21-5, and Alan Fay, 21-8, were outstanding for Co-op.

Post Office and Salthouse shared the games at West Shore, but convincing displays from Ian Pullin, 21-7, Barry Woodall and Dave Mellen, both 21-8, gave the Posties the aggregate

Danny Rogers and Garry Thompson were the losers' best.

Mike Askew, 21-3, Ian Clough and Ian Jones, both 21-5, helped Askam to their biggest result of the season, 12-2 over Roose Community.

Connor Emanuel and Graham Gedling carded 21-18 triumphs for Roose.

Hawcoat Park A are still winless after 10 games and look to be heading into Division Two. Their latest defeat was at home to Walney Park, going down 10-5.

Mike Proctor and Geoff Maudsley were the best home bowlers, while Mark Howard, 21-6, was on fire for Walney.

Saturday’s rain meant only two matches were played in Division Two.

With leaders King Alfred A rained off, a 9-5 success for Lindal A moved them top. Keith Johnson, 21-7, Dennis Rooney and Alex Spelman, both 21-9, were the homes side's best.

The works side will be happy to have taken five of the bottom seven games, the best from Stephen Viney, 21-9.

Kirkby A moved third after a narrow 8-7 win at Barrow Island, who took seven of the 12 games. Big victories from Dave Metcalf, 21-5, Peter Tyson, 21-7, Geoff Leatherhead, 21-8, and Graham Preston, 21-9, resulted in the extra three aggregate points going to the visitors by three chalks.

The Division Three title battle is a one-horse race, with leaders Police A a massive 25 points clear.

Only Mike Boulton’s 21-14 result prevented fourth-placed West Mount from being whitewashed. Keith Churchman, 21-6, Nigel Burns, 21-7, and merit leader Paul Curwen, 21-8, were best for Police.

Red River A’s improved form continued with a 10-5 win at West Mount B to move them into fifth. Steve Thwaites, 21-5, and Rohan Massey-Holmes, 21-9, had good home successes, but Dave Pullin was in sensational form for the River, emerging as a 21-3 victor, enabling his side to take the aggregate by a single chalk.

West Shore A picked up their second win of the season 10-5 at bottom club Roose Community B.

Roose claimed five games and lost two 21-20, but the match was lost as they gave away a walkover. Roose loan player Jim Postlethwaite and Walney's Billy Carson were both 21-9 victors.

Walney Park B had their biggest triumph for a number of years, coming away from Hawcoat Park C with a 13-2 result.

Neil McMillan, 21-7, Mark Lamb, 21-9, Ray Visick and Tom McDougal were the victors' best, while Andrew McNicol had a fine 21-6 score for the home side.

Co-op SC B are only a point behind Salthouse B after a 10-4 win at Dane Avenue.

Co-op's Peter Jeffrey, 21-7, was matches by Salthouse's Darren Mountford, but both were surpassed by Ronald Crompton’s 21-3 score for the visitors.
