ULVERSTON Cons A kept the Ulverston and District Bowling League title in town as they waltzed away with the trophy.
After looking as though they would fall short, a 13-2 final-day win over Lindal ensured they fulfilled Peter Earley’s dream.
The final table shows them eight points clear of valiant Hawcoat Park, who fought until the end.
As the Cons were cruising to victory at Lindal Moor A, Hawcoat had to rely on the aggregate at Glaxo in an 8-7 success.
Red River may have faltered in the last few games, but they have performed outstandingly in their first season back in the top-flight, and can take consolation from the fact that they took the top-three placings in the merit table.
Barry Lowden is this year's champion, with David Jones and Simon Perry taking the minor honours.
It could not have been closer in the relegation battle.
With Lindal Moor A already down, it was between Roose and Dalton Cricket for the remaining relegation spot.
Dalton held a four-point advantage going into the final fixtures, and probably thought they had done enough as they took six points against Salthouse.
However, Roose have been impressive of late and played brilliantly to defeat Askam 11-3 and complete their mission impossible to stay up by a solitary point.
Division Two was already wrapped up by a strong West Shore team who ended 35 points ahead of their nearest rivals.
Last week's report did their captain a disservice, giving credit to the wrong person. So well done to Andy Boardman and his merry men.
They will be joined by Kirkby, who managed to take 20 points from their final week. With nearest challengers West Mount only having the one game, albeit a great result as they defeated Police 13-2, Kirkby finished five points clear in second.
The top-three clubs also filled the top-three places in the individual merit.
Top of the shots was West Shore’s Steve Hunter, losing only two games all year, one win clear of Kirkby’s Noel McAlley, with West Mount’s Mike Hodgson in third.
The league thank Alan Myerscough (Ford), of Ulverston, for their continued backing.
They also thank Ray Dunstan as he steps down from the committee after years of service as both chairman and secretary.
