DAVE Robinson believes Shane Toal has what it takes to get to the top level of rugby league after he and brother Dan became the first out-of-contract squad members to agree deals with Barrow Raiders for next season.

It was the younger of the pair, Shane, who led the way for Barrow with 24 tries in all competitions this season, earning the winger a call-up to Scotland's squad for the Rugby League World Cup.

And both director of rugby Robinson and head coach Paul Crarey are convinced he is showing he can star at Super League level if he keeps progressing as he has done.

"I am delighted both Shane and Dan Toal have signed for another year, it helps keep the continuity of the team going forward," Robinson said.

"Dan is a warrior and always brings something different to the pack, while Shane, in mine and Paul’s opinion, is a future Super League player if he continues to show the same improvement and commitment as he has done over the past season.

"It was a pleasure doing business with the brothers."

The Ulverstonian siblings, who both signed one-year deals ahead of the 2017 season, played important roles as Raiders clinched a promotion and League One Cup double this year.

It was Shane who grabbed many of the headlines with his try-scoring feats, including the two unconverted scores which saw Barrow defeat Whitehaven and clinch promotion in the Kingstone Press League One play-off final.

But Dan played just as important a role in the pack, putting in a string of impressive displays in the second row or loose forward whether starting or coming off the interchange bench.

The duo will again be expected to be important pieces in the jigsaw as the Raiders aim to cement their place in the Championship, with their decision to stay adding a further boost to the squad following the signing of Italy international prop Alec Susino.

"We are building a team to stay up, and laying solid foundations for the future," said Robinson, adding: "Everything is looking positive."

Meanwhile, Shane Toal is due to start for Scotland in their World Cup warm-up match against a New South Wales Country Under-23 team in Ballina tomorrow.
