JAMIE Dallimore grabbed a hat-trick of tries as Barrow Raiders advanced to the League One Cup quarter-finals with a hard-fought 46-18 victory away to amateurs Rochdale Mayfield

Paul Crarey named a strong side for the tie at the Mayfield Sports Centre, with Lewis Charnock included at scrum-half after passing a fitness test.

That was an acknowledgement of the dangers posed by last year's Conference Challenge Trophy winners and Mayfield showed that in the opening minutes when they recovered the ball from a short kick-off.

The Raiders repelled that attack though and went up the other end to open the scoring after six minutes, with Charnock twisting his way over the try line and then adding the conversion.

Four minutes later, Joe Bullock sent fellow prop Ollie Wilkes powering through for Barrow's second try, which was again converted by Charnock.

Luke Cresswell, playing on the wing, was then denied a try after being forced into touch just before getting the ball down, but the former Barrow Island amateur did get over for a converted score on 19 minutes after being found with a cut-out pass from Ryan Fieldhouse.

Shane Toal and Jamie Dallimore then ran in tries before half-time as well, both of which were converted by Charnock, although Mayfield did hit back with a well-worked score from Zak Hartley, who in turn kicked the conversion to make it 30-6 when the hooter sounded for the interval.

However, Mayfield's hopes suffered a further blow when they were temporarily reduced to 11 men after Callum Ogden and Simon Moore were sin-binned in quick succession soon after the restart for a late hit and a high tackle respectively.

Barrow were only able to breach a stoic Mayfield defence once during this period though a converted try from stand-off Dallimore and the home side were in again on 58 minutes when impressive full-back Lewis Sheridan forced his way over in the corner, with Hartley converting.

Dallimore went on to complete his treble five minutes later, chasing down his own kick to score after a knock-on by Mayfield, although the hosts hit back when Hartley returned an interception from his own half for a try which he also converted.

The Raiders had the final word eight minutes from time though as Declan Hulme got on the scoresheet and Dallimore kicked the extras, and they now await tomorrow's draw to see who they will face in the last eight.
