RYAN Fieldhouse led the way with four tries as Barrow Raiders recorded a comfortable 92-4 victory over the Barrow and District Select at Craven Park in their first pre-season game.

The match provided the Raiders squad with the chance to get some minutes in their legs before Christmas, although the likes of Oliver Wilkes, Joe Bullock, Nathan Mossop and trialists Tom Loxam were just watching this one from the stands.

It did, however, give head coach Paul Crarey the chance to see new signings Jarrad Stack, Declan Hulme, Tom Walker, Brett Carter and Lewis Charnock in action – albeit against a short-handed Barrow and District side, who featured coach Paul Henderson at centre and Barrow trialist Ethan Kelly on the interchange bench.

It took just two minutes for the Raiders to click into gear, with Stack putting fellow former Workington Town player Hulme over in the corner after the hosts had worked space out wide with a move from a penalty.

Ex-St Helens half-back Charnock kicked the resulting conversion and it was his break which led to the second try five minutes later, bursting through and passing to send support runner Karl Ashall in from 40 metres along with kicking the extras from in front of the posts.

Shane Toal got in on the scoring act with a solo try in the 11th minute, catching a high ball and shimmying past several would-be tacklers to dot down followed by a third conversion of the afternoon from Charnock.

Barrow went nearly the length of the field for their fourth try following a handover 10 metres from their own line. This time it was Brett Carter who was on hand to finish out wide, with the try going unconverted this time.

The midway point of the half saw the Raiders make a raft of changes, but the scoring continued and Danny Morrow burst through the defence for a try which was converted by Furness Raiders stand-off Jake Carter – who went on to kick 14 points during his two spells on the pitch.

Interchange man Fieldhouse grabbed two tries within the space of three minutes soon after coming on too – one of which Carter converted – while Chris Fleming's score and Johnston's conversion putting the Raiders 44 points clear at half time.

It was a similar story after the break, with Fieldhouse adding a further two tries to his haul, Stack going over twice, and Andy Litherland, James Duerden and Dan Abram going over for single scores.

However, there was one moment for the Barrow and District side to cheer when Stuart Tippett punished an error from Fieldhouse close to the line to grab an unconverted try five minutes from time.
