FURNESS Raiders are set to break new ground on Tuesday when they take their re-arranged Association of Colleges National Cup tie to Kendal.

The match against Coleg Y Cymoedd was postponed earlier this week due to the poor weather, but talks with Kendal Rugby Union FC have led to the under-19s securing the use of the new 4G artificial pitch at Mintbridge.

Raiders academy head coach Darren Carter is grateful to Kendal not only hosting the game, but re-arranging their first-team training plans to allow the last 16 tie to take place and hopes it will lead to gaining a new audience as well.

"We looked at alternative venues because the weather forecast isn't great and the game takes priority over league games, so next week was the next available one,” said Carter.

“They've changed their first-team training night to accommodate us, which I thought was excellent.

“We're trying to branch out a little bit to Kendal as well because it's not too far away and it would be good for them to see what is going on at Barrow with the academy.

“It's good for the players, it's good to get the game played, and it's good to take it out of the town and do something a bit different for the lads as well.

“We thank Kendal RUFC for accommodating us and we hope we can put on a good show – and you never know, it could potentially happen again in the future.”

Meanwhile, Furness squad members Jake Carter, Danny Wright, Tyler Lancaster, Matty Brown and Jake Stockdale will be heading down to Leyland on Monday to train with the England Colleges team.

The quintet are aiming to secure places in the squad for this summer's international matches against Wales and Scotland.
