RYAN Fieldhouse ran in a hat-trick of tries as Hemel Stags were put to the sword 82-0 by Barrow Raiders in the Saturday evening Kingstone Press League One game at Craven Park.

Fieldhouse led the way for the home side against a Stags outfit who were completely over-matched in every facet of the game, with Declan Hulme, Brad Marwood, Andy Litherland and Ryan Johnston adding two each as well.

It proved a memorable bow for Furness Raiders graduate Johnston, who kicked 11 goals as well after being handed his maiden competitive start for Barrow along with wingers Tom Loxam and Brett Carter as head coach Paul Crarey shuffled his pack for this encounter.

And it has so far proven to be a memorable start for former Dalton amateur Johnston, who has also kicked five conversions.

Hemel had enjoyed an early spell of pressure following a knock-on by Martin Aspinwall on the first set, but were unable to capitalise and a counter-attack from the Raiders saw them go the length of the field for Andy Litherland to send through Ryan Fieldhouse – via the hand of defender – for an unconverted try.

Again, the Stags were able to exert some pressure from the restart after Jorge Richardson intercepted an offload from Oliver Wilkes, only for a handling error within striking distance to snuff out the attack.

The Raiders duly went up the other end and added to their tally. Declan Hulme made the break and the ball was worked out wide via Fieldhouse for Carter to grab his first try in Barrow colours, with Johnston converting.

After this it was pretty much all Barrow and when Jarrad Stack made almost 30 metres on his own with a superb carry, it led to a penalty which was kicked to the corner and set up an attack which was finished by Johnston backing himself to score, along with adding the extras.

Highly-rated prospect Johnston got his second on 20 minutes thanks to some excellent support running for half-back partner Jamie Dallimore, who broke the line and then drew the full-back before passing to set up the try, which was converted as well.

Interchange prop Tom Walker got in on the act too, recovering a loose ball after a high kick from Dallimore had been knocked on, with Fieldhouse adding his second and Hulme going over on the stroke of half time to put Barrow in complete control.

There was little let up after the break as Barrow won the ball back from the kick-off and within 35 seconds of the restart, Fieldhouse had gone over to complete his hat-trick and Hulme added his second of the match six minutes later. Hulme then got his second, followed by centre partner Litherland, Marwood, Jarrad Stack and Nathan Mossop adding to the misery for Hemel as well.
