STAND-OFF Jamie Dallimore sealed the points against a gutsy London Skolars outfit with two late penalties at the New River Stadium for a tenth win of the League One campaign for Barrow Raiders.

Paul Crarey’s side were pushed all the way in a gritty triumph but this match will be best remembered for a chaotic incident just before half-time when match referee Geoffrey Poumes blew for the interval before the official timekeeper had sounded the hooter.

With the Raiders 10-6 ahead London had spilled the ball just shy of the Barrow line, but with fans, players and coaching staff expecting a defensive scrum, both teams left the field looking totally bemused.

The incident summed up a puzzling display from the match official who made a number of strange decisions including six extra minutes in the second half in a stop-start encounter. Barrow though came through the test to keep them on track for a top-three spot.

With a trophy already in the bag in the shape of the League One Cup, the 2017 season is edging closer to a potential Cumbrian head to head against Whitehaven in the play-offs.

The visitors failed to click into gear in the opening sets, although full-back Ryan Fieldhouse was a central character as Barrow’s defence held firm at vital times.

But the Raiders were caught flat-footed for the first try when Jermaine Coleman sent Lamont Bryan over the whitewash on 15 minutes.

Coleman’s brother, Jy-Mel, slotted the extras for a 6-0 home lead.

Barrow sparked into action and got on the front foot with a couple of penalty awards.

Eze Harper was just short when driving to the try-line but in the ensuing set, Brett Carter initiated a slick move when he cut in from the right wing. Martin Aspinall carried the ball deep into London territory then Oliver Wilkes picked up possession and crashed under the posts.

Lewis Charnock levelled the scores but the hosts were not fazed and quickly responded when Josh Allison held off two defenders to score a poor try from the Barrow perspective.

Coleman was wide with the conversion and Barrow could only blame themselves for the try, but they hit back in the best way possible from the restart.

Nathan Mossop had entered the fray and made an instant impact when he collected the ball from an attacking scrum before snaking through the Skolars defence to touch down under the posts on 29 minutes.

Charnock converted to give Barrow the lead for the first time and extended the advantage to four points from a penalty in the next attacking set.

After the bizarre ending to the first half, Barrow finally began to dictate play and increased the lead to a converted score when Charnock slotted a penalty for a tackle offence on 48 minutes.

Charnock could have taken Barrow further away seven minutes later but spilled the ball from a Matty While pass just 10 yards from the whitewash.

The match then took an unexpected turn when London went down to 12 players after Bryan received a yellow card for dissent.

Coleman (Jermaine) was then warned for a high tackle on Dallimore, but no sanction was given.

But if the Raiders, with a man advantage felt safe, London suddenly bossed proceedings throughout the sin bin offence but they failed to capitalise on a number of openings.

After both captains were warned following a mass melee of players seven minutes from time, Barrow finally settled a stop-start contest.

Dallimore slotted a penalty after Lameck Juma upended Dan Toal on 75 minutes and then kicked another penalty after dusting down following a heavy challenge by Louis Robinson in the final minute.
