PAUL Crarey revelled in a fiery derby encounter which saw Barrow Raiders overcome Workington Town 36-14 and take a big leap towards securing second place in Kingstone Press League One.

Two tries from Shane Toal, plus one apiece for Nathan Mossop, Ryan Fieldhouse, Jamie Dallimore and Ollie Wilkes helped the hosts seal victory in a clash which saw four men sin-binned and Town's Macaulay Davies sent off.

Raiders head coach Crarey was delighted with what he saw from his side though and the only downside for him was they were unable to make the most of chances which could have made the margin of victory greater.

"I thought it was brutal at times and I loved every minute of it," said Crarey. "I thought it was what the fans want to see.

"Probably some of the sin-binnings were a bit harsh, but we dominated the game totally. I think they had one clean line-break from (Jamie) Doran and they never really broke us down, and I thought we were really good.

"We left four tries out there which were marginally forward and I just think we dominated the game.

"We wanted to win and hopefully secure that second place. We're on our way to doing that, we've got a few injuries which is a concern going to Toronto, but we just wanted to get to the win."

Chief among those injury concerns are Lewis Charnock, who suffered a concussion and Tom Walker, who was unable to continue after having stitches in a cut on his head.

There are several other members of the Barrow squad who are unable to go to Canada due to work commitments.

But Crarey is optimistic the Raiders will be able to field a side to keep intact their superior points difference over third-placed Whitehaven, which should be enough to see them take second even if they were to lose their two remaining Super Eights games and Haven win both of theirs.

"We're looking at numbers for Toronto because the lads can't get time off," said Crarey.

"They took four days off last time and to ask them to take another four again as part-time players is difficult for them.

"We'll go with what we've got and hopefully we can hold onto our points difference when we go over there.

"There will be a few players left behind and hopefully they will be fresh enough to run up against Keighley."
