PAUL Crarey is looking for Barrow Raiders to show they have learned from their mistakes when they take on Toronto Wolfpack this Sunday.

A 56-12 defeat at London Broncos in their Betfred Championship opener last weekend proved a sobering introduction to life back in the second tier for Raiders.

But while head coach Crarey was able to take some positives from the match, he recognised the need to avoid repeating mistakes which proved costly when Barrow face another of the full-time teams in Toronto.

"We didn't help ourselves in the first half," said Crarey. "We went for an edge and coughed it up cheap, we kicked out on the full and we didn't make touch from a penalty, we pushed the ball when we could have scored and they go 90 metres.

"There are all of those things, but as long as you learn, you can move forward. We can't repeat these mistakes like last-tackle penalties, hands in the ruck, little amateurish penalties.

"So we've got to get rid of all that and we've got a few games to learn and find our feet in this division, and hopefully come out with no busted bodies so the games we need to win to stay in the division, we're healthy."

Barrow were not helped by being unable to rotate their forwards late on after using up all of their interchanges due to injuries, having to see out the final seven minutes with 12 men after Lewis Charnock was forced off.

Crarey knows these are the challenges both Raiders and the rest of the part-time teams in the Championship face when they take on the full-time sides, particularly with their players not having the same amount of rest and recuperation time due to work commitments.

But he has no intent of shying away from them, and the focus in training ahead of the Canadian side's first visit to Craven Park will be ironing out issues from the London defeat.

"We'll do some work on process this week as long as we're not too bashed-up and the physios will have a job on this week as they will for all 30 weeks," said Crarey.

"We'll do our best and there's no shame in this. Swinton got blown out in the last 15 minutes against Toulouse and that will happen against full-time teams.

"That little bit of extra training, a little bit of extra rest and a quick surface make a difference. We've got to learn for Toronto and it's going to be a big ask to put in a performance against them."
