DARREN Carter is impressed with how both the newer and senior members of the Furness Raiders squad are developing ahead of their first home game of the season tonight.

The under-19s welcome Loughborough-based Midlands Hurricanes to Craven Park for the third College Rugby League game of the season after a win and a loss from their opening two away games (kick-off 7pm).

Jake Carter was one of the established players who drew praise from the Furness boss in last week's 28-20 defeat to Wakefield College, as well as being named as man of the match by host head coach Liam Finn.

Danny Wright and Jake Stockdale earned plaudits too, and academy head coach Carter wants to see more of the same tonight.

"Some of the players who have been in the system a few years now are really coming to the fore, as well as a few of the younger ones," said Carter.

"I thought Charlie Emsley, who has played both of our games in the second row as a first year, played tough and did very well. We're really pleased for all of them and hopefully we can carry on that mentality going into this game against a really good side.

"I know they'll be well-drilled, they've got a cracking set-up at the Midlands and it's going to be a tough game. The result isn't the most important thing, it's bringing the kids through and that's what we're doing."

Emsley is one of the players who is missing tonight though as Carter rotates the squad, following on with the selection policy Furness have utilised in the opening weeks of the 2017/18 season.

Brandon Corrie comes back into the side to partner Carter in the halves after a long lay-off from a shoulder injury, with Josh Rankine adding some size to the front row as well.

Emsley is replaced by another first-year player in Zak Steel and Carter has high hopes for the Askam junior after seeing him in action during the opening matches.

"He looks to me like he's got some serious potential to do well in the game," said Carter.

"I've only seen him a few times and in the short space of time I've seen him, he's definitely impressed me. I'm looking forward to seeing him go tonight in the second row and I have no doubts he'll do well."

Admission for tonight's game is £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £2 for children.
