PROMISING second-row pair Danny Morrow and Matty While have become the latest players to agree new contracts with Barrow Raiders.

Former Walney Central amateur Morrow and ex-Leeds Rhinos academy player While join established stars Oliver Wilkes and Ryan Fieldhouse in agreeing deals for 2017.

The duo have both seen action in Kingstone Press League One this season and Barrow joint-director of rugby Andy Gaffney hopes they can continue to progress after signing on for another season at Craven Park.

“It's important we keep developing our local players, as they will eventually become the spine of our team,” said Gaffney.

“Although Danny and Matty are still learning, they have both had a great season and can only get better if they continue to work hard.”

Morrow's first season in the professional ranks proved to be a partially frustrating one, as he was forced to sit out a total of nine games due to suspension.

Despite that, he was still able to make 10 appearances and score three tries. Head coach Paul Crarey's faith in him was shown by his being thrust straight back into action for the play-off semi-finals and final against Doncaster and Toulouse Olympique respectively.

While, 19, who played for both Roose Pioneers and Barrow Island, featured twice for Raiders in League One during the 2016 season, including making a try-scoring debut off the bench in the 44-4 win at South Wales Scorpions in May.

His other outing came as an interchange player as well, coming on in the 62-4 victory at home to Hemel Stags the following month.

Barrow are still negotiating with other members of the squad to secure them on contracts for the 2017 season and are hoping to confirm another new signing shortly. However, no deals with possible new recruits have yet been finalised.
