PAUL Crarey revealed how Dan Toal's converted try which earned Barrow Raiders an 8-8 draw against Toronto Wolfpack came from a play they had worked on following their video analysis.

It was during his scouting of yesterday's opponents that Raiders head coach Crarey spotted a weakness in the game of Wolfpack full-back Quentin Laulu-Togagae he felt they could exploit.

That ultimately proved to be the case as it was a knock-on by Laulu-Togagae while fielding a kick which led to second row Toal scoring Barrow's try after 55 minutes and Crarey was delighted to see their plan come off.

“We got them on a kick and we worked on that,” said Crarey. “QLT is sometimes late on the inside and if he's trying to make that space up, he's got to pick the ball up off the floor at speed and he came up with an error to let us in.

“We're happy that something we worked on came up trumps for us.

“I thought we were very, very good. To get a point today against one of the full-time teams who are favourites to win this division speaks volumes for this group of players.

“I'm proud about the process and how, after the previous week's defeat, they've picked themselves up. We've worked solely on end-of-set plays and completions and ruck control, and it showed that we were very good in those areas.”

Crarey was rightly proud of the performance from his side to get a draw against the full-time Canadian outfit who were promoted to the Betfred Championship from League One along with Barrow last year.

He was much happier with the completion rate of over 80 per cent from his players compared to the previous week's loss at London Broncos too, although is still looking for improvements in one or two areas.

Nevertheless, Crarey was delighted to see the Raiders come away with a point after losing both games out in Toronto last year and hopes the players can take plenty of confidence from the match into this Sunday's home game against another of the full-time sides, Leigh Centurions.

“It's a massive effort,” said Crarey. “Everyone had written us off for these first three games and we've got a point from the first two.

“There is still room for improvement on our part, but it gives us a little bit of confidence going into the Leigh game and playing against teams around us.

“This division is so tough it's unbelievable, but this is a team who beat us twice last year on their track and we didn't score a try against them. But we did score a try today and we got a draw out of the game.”
