The crowd favourite was seen by a physician at the interval of the round three clash after taking a bang, and later he reported to Furness General Hospital’s accident and emergency unit where he was given antibiotics.
He returned to FGH the following day after his hand had swollen and was admitted.
It is not known if Harrison – who has been on a drip – was to due be released last night or if he would continue his stay in hospital.
A concerned Barrow Raiders coach Paul Crarey said: “Liam Harrison is in hospital, he’s got an infection in his arm. It is all swollen up.
“He came off at half-time and it was all swelled up. The doctor put him on antibiotics but he’s in hospital on a drip at the moment. I think they are keeping him in for a couple of days.”
Harrison, 33 in December, is a big doubt for this Sunday’s Super 8s round four clash against visiting Hunslet Hawks, where victory for Barrow can go a long way to cementing third place and a home tie for the top five play-offs.
“It will be a big miss if he doesn’t play,” continued Crarey.
“Knowing Liam he will try and want to play, but I think it is going to be impossible this weekend.
“He can’t get out of his hospital bed and play. If he does it will be a bit of a miracle.
“He is keen to play if he can but I went to see him last night in hospital and his arm was like a balloon, we will have to see how it goes.”
Describing the incident, Crarey added: “He just got a bang in the first half and the physio pulled me in at half-time and said we are going to take him to the doctor because it swelled up. His arm was a bit like Popeye.
“I took him to the doctor who pulled him out of the game and when he came back I think he went to A&E and they put him on antibiotics, but the next morning I got a phone call off him saying that his hand was swollen. He went to the hospital and they kept him in. I went to see him last night and they put him on a drip.”
“He said to me last night that they are probably going to keep him in for a couple of days so we are just waiting on him to get back,” added Crarey who was due to visit him last night.
Pack ace Harrison has been in tremendous form for Barrow this season despite being wrapped up in cotton wool before every Raiders game and excused from running drills because of an arthritic right knee which requires a pain-killing injection and blood drained from it before he plays.
Crarey said: “He’s been outstanding this year, it is a countdown to him finishing and I think he will want to finish on a high so it would be a shame if he doesn’t play, but his health comes first.
“I am worried about him personally, but he will be all right. He’s a tough cookie.”
